Delightful reads
These little books by Mrs. Richardson are a delight to read aloud with kids or just by yourself. Good old stuff without the modern twist.

In Grandma's Attic
I remember these books well from the first time they were published, in 1974, when I was just a little girl, the age of one of my daughters. I loved this series back then, and I saved the original set for my daughters to read someday. Now they are back, in beautiful, colorful covers and black and white illustrations ready to win another set of little girls' hearts.Ms Arleta Richardson writes charming short stories based on the things she remembered her grandmother telling her. Stories about the ancient trunk filled with quilt pieces, each with its own special tale. Stories about the button box. Stories about funny looking contraption she found hidden in the attic. And stories about many other things.Grandma's Attic Series is destined to touch your little girl's life like it did mine. Not only are they fun stories that are easy to read, short, and to the point, but they also teach about history, about life when their grandma was a little girl asking questions about things she found in her grandmother's attic.I highly recommended these books as a girl and I highly recommend them now. My daughter loved them. If you are looking for something for your tweener girl to read, then definitely pick up a copy of the books in Grandma's Attic Series. Books one and two are out now, the third and fourth will release in July.

Loved by my 7 year old
Needed a book with some good values and this was it. I love that she's reading something with lessons and good behavior from the characters.

Cozy Comforting Stories of Times Gone By
"In Grandma's Attic" is a collection of stories told to Arleta Richardson when she was a child. The stories are mostly about farm life and most have a life lesson to teach. I completely enjoyed reading these stories and also enjoyed retelling short versions of them to my husband. These are the types of stories you want to share with other people because they are so funny. They are stories of real-life events that happened to Arleta's grandmother. She was quite the character. While reading you will feel nostalgic for simpler times gone by. I found these to be cozy comforting stories. Perfect for reading to kids at bedtime.~The Rebecca Review

Easy to read; laugh-out-loud good, clean fun!
My daughters (6 and 8) and I have been enjoying these stories so much! Each chapter is a stand-alone remembrance of an event from Grandma's childhood. Perfect for bedtime reading because the chapters are pretty short (3-4 pages) and engaging. Most of the stories are humorous and offer some sort of moral, often with Christian references. My girls and I have read several books from the Little House series, and this book has that same sort of easy readability, a gentle glimpse into a different time. Every time we sat down to read from this book, I had to go through at least 3 chapters before my children would let me put the bookmark in for a break. We plan on following up with the sequel!

Delightful
What a refreshing down home story! I absolutely loved this book and could have read more if she had shared more.

Great stories for ages 5 & up.
The stories are entertaining and easy to read. I said ages 5 & up. While waiting to see a doctor, I read some of these to a great-grandmother age woman I was escorting. She thought they were wonderful.

This series is great.
This is a great read aloud book. It gives a peek into a different lifestyle, when children did not have all the computers etc. to amuse themselves.

Hard to relate to and very archaic
As a bedtime story, we read from the beginning to almost the end of the book. Took about a week or two. We usually have a little discussion after reading each chapter. We feel the parents of "grandma" meted out too many unnecessary punishments. The girl (grandma) wasn't even really naughty. A bit sad that the fear of being punished or rebuked was always at the back of her mind whenever she did something she knew her parents considered "bad". Her brother got spanked for some trivial things he did while sleepwalking. And after his parents realised he didn't do those things on purpose (because he was sleepwalking), there was no word of apology from the parents after. I hope these stories aren't real, and if they are, well thankfully those days are over! I understand that the book is meant to be a way to educate children about morals, but we didn't think the kind of instances described in this book as worthy of punishment were really illustrative of the morals the book was trying to preach and the tone of the language sometimes was quite off-putting. Perhaps it is just a reflection of the times and the culture that it described, but for a modern child of today it is hard to relate to that other than feeling like "thank goodness we don't live like that!" Also, by the ending of the book, my kids were started to groan whenever I took the book out. They aren't fans basically! I've found better resources to talk about morality to my children than to read archaic stuff like this.
