Ugears.........NEVER AGAIN!
Have purchased u gears models in the past and enjoyed them all. However, this is the second in a row that I have had problems with. The toothpicks were too small to stay in place as designed. Also, the lamination of the plywood was improperly done as evident by small pieces coming apart when removing them from board. (The previous model had defective pieces that became evident at end of build while winding the rubber band mechanism). Done with u gears, other companies out there that still sell a quality product

It looks amazing when finished but...
This is not an easy model to make. It is often very frustrating. You have to deal with a lot of internal mechanisms, which may not be ideal for a casual model maker. I have been making models for 20+ years so not a beginner. Pieces are held together with wooden cocktails sticks. The tightness means that its often very difficult to slot the sticks into the available holes. I spent most of my time shaving down the sticks with a sharp knife. You also need to use elastic bands to wind up and power the moving parts. The pieces are easy to break. I am not a clumsy person, actually very careful - but I broke 5 pieces in total, luckily they were non essential internal parts so they didn't show. I worked on this for a full month (a few hours every day) so you need patience to do it. Once it starts taking shape, you do start to feel satisfied. So its fabulous looking when its all over, just be sure you want to put yourself through the ordeal.

Absolutely hooked
Having put one of the cars together as my first attempt at these superb models and enjoying every minute, I went for the Bigboy truck. The more time I spend building this, the more I realise what a fantastic product it is. The thought that has gone into these is amazing. This one would be a difficult first go, but once you work out the instructions, and what the symbols mean, they are easy to follow. I am half way towards building the Bigboy truck and still enthralled with it. Shut myself in the shed, with the radio on and a cup of coffee, and I lose track of time. Some of the parts take some persuading to come out of the cut-outs and it's no good using brute force as breaking one of the pieces would cause problems. Everything fits together superbly, and it's great when you start to see it shaping up. I love them, and going to spend a fortune on them in the future, but they are worth every penny.

Monster Truck kit
Arrived a day earlier than expected, very well packed. I have made two kits from Ugears and this is similar but more complicated. To date have managed to assemble the gearbox for the drive mechanism. Great fun and cleverly designed. Find I must wax every gearwheel and bearing to ensure the mechanism will turn. But then it does work. I would have thought it a bit too complicated for a 14 year old unless really committed to modelling. It needs time and patience and I find it a challenge and relaxing. Would thoroughly recommend.

Keep on trucking !
These models by Ugears are the most refreshing new range of models to come on the market in recent years . They are NOT for beginners , especially if you want them to perform as promised . They will teach you patience , carefulness , and tenacity , but if you keep trying , they will reward you greatly . Absolutely superb in every respect .

Badly laminated plywood
Compared to other UGears models I have built, and those from other manufacturers, this one was badly cut, poorly laminated and has some design faults. I gave up when the front steering disintegrated during construction as there was no glue holding the laminate together and have returned it for a refund. Even parts of the ingenious motor mechanism where far too stiff to construct, two requiring glueing back together and many more requiring a craft knife or sandpaper. Not the usual quality I expect from UGears.
