Rates High Compared To Others in This Series
This is a selfish review since I am related to SO many of the families in the book. This story really showed the feeling of the people that I haven't seen in other Images of America Books I've purchased, regardless. Seeing not just buildings is a nice difference. You could see the character in a lot of the photos, which were borrowed or lended to the authors from most of those families. Whether it's a group of hunters, a wise-cracking or smiling person in a photo, the less than typical rigid portrait, or even the photo taken of a local hanging, this gave a much larger sense of the world they lived in, and the kind of freedom and space people once had in a few ways we may not have now. It didn't feel pretentious and self-important but more human. The one gripe I have, and it is something I sincerely feel: the pictures weren't as high-resolution or glossy, quality pictures as I would have loved to see. Otherwise the book is a solid softcover book with good binding and should last a long while.

More information
There should have been a better description for this book. It did contain the promised photos, but little on history to put those photos into perspective, and the photos had primary meaning only if you were related to the few family names mentioned. I was expecting more of a history on the county and it was not there. The one useful item was a map that was taken from another book. The book should mention also that it inly really covered a bit about a couple of locales in Taney county and not ALL of Taney county.

Great book about Taney county residents
Great book if you are looking for a little touch of Taney county. It was wonderful to see some pictures of where my father grew up. I have bought this book for my dad and is he going to be surprised. There are some pictures of dad's family in there that he has probably never seen.

Not what I thought it was going to be!
I purchased this book thinking that it was about Taney Co., Missouri as the title says. It is not. It is a book about the author's family, the Layton's and the Cobb's including almost all of the pictures. There are many notible families from that area that were hardly mentioned. I have other "Images of America Series" books that I have really enjoyed reading. I am very dissapointed in this book! I would only recommend this book to someone who wants to know about the Layton's or the Cobb's, as it has little information about Taney County.
