UB1250 12V 5AH Sealed Lead Acid (SLA) Battery .187 TT

Original review: I ordered two of these batteries from Amazon and received free shipping since I am an Amazon.com prime member. They arrived on time but the box they were in was damaged. Suspecting poor handling by the shipper, I opened the box to discover that it was the packaging not the shipping that caused the damage. There was no padding or protection of any type - no air bags, no peanuts, nothing - the pair of approx. 2 1/2" x 3" x 4" batteries were in a 4" x 8" x 10" box. The terminals were not covered and the two batteries could have come in contact with each other and shorted out. It's scary to imagine what that might have done. The terminals on one of the batteries are smashed flat against the top of the battery and will no doubt break off if I try to straighten them. After seeing the damage, I decided to return them to Amazon only to get this message:"For safety reasons, items that are classified as hazardous materials or use flammable liquids or gases cannot bereturned to Amazon.com. Customers should dispose of hazardous materials according to Local, State and Federal regulations. Customers should contact their local government or local waste company for directions on how to dispose of Household Hazardous Waste."So, beware, you may waste $35 like I have if your batteries arrive unusable. It came as a real surprise to me that a company can sell a product and not have any liability to replace it if it arrives defective - I've never experienced that with any other company. And, yes, I know these reviews are for the item not the seller. I believe a zero star is applicable for the item since it arrived defective and I am stuck with it whatever the reason.Update: Careful work with screwdriver, pliers, and a soldering gun allowed me to put these batteries in the backup power supply for my garage opener. They work fine, so I am changing my rating to 4 stars since the batteries themselves seem to be good quality. I hope the distressed terminals do not break off.Update 2/22/2011: Ordered another one of these for a security system. Amazon has fixed their packaging. This one arrived with the terminals well protected and the battery was in a box that fit it perfectly. This box was wrapped in plastic air bag padding and put in a larger shipping box.

It's a battery, what do you want me to say. It fits in my application, just as the old one did. It's used as a backup system, and I've had no problems for over a year.... Knock on wood!

These get used several places around here, as are several other sizes of small sealed lead acid batteries. The UPG UB1250's are rarely the first to fail (I replace all of them, all sizes and locations, when one fails). When taken out of backup service they are usually still in good shape and continue on in some other non-critical task. The service interval (usually determined by some other battery dying) is around 2 1/2 - 3 years. For this type of battery, and for this price, that's pretty good (and remember, they are still holding a charge well, and handling the occasional power outage at that time - so 2&1/2 to 3 years is NOT their total life).With one exception, it has been the poor quality batteries they keep supplying for one UPS that triggers the mass battery replacement (I finally found another brand here on Amazon that looks better for that UPS - I'll report back after a few years on how it worked out). I seem to recall that one of these died first one time, but can't be sure of it. It WAS one of this size, but could have been another brand.I've had good luck, with a reasonable service interval of up to 3 years (and still no failure), with this battery.One warning: the Amazon elves do not know how to package these for shipping (they aren't great at packaging a good many heavy/dense items)! The last batch came one to a box, with nothing to keep them from banging around inside the box besides a couple of flimsy single-cavity plastic bubbles - which were, of course, punctured and deflated, then providing a slick plastic film to lubricate the battery's gyrations inside the box during shipment. It is a testament to their quality of construction that, though some of the terminals were bent (easily bent back), and some corners slightly chipped, there was no sign of leakage or other substantial damage. I've had this problem before, but the most recent shipment was the worst. So far all of the batteries have arrived a bit battered or scratched up, but usable.

Used this to replace an aged breakaway battery on a bumper-pull trailer. Arrived in good shape and fully charged, easily installed, duplicate of the old battery, hope it lasts 5 years like the prior one.

This battery is exactly what we were looking for. It's the right one for our home security system.
