Hammond Organ Bass Lines Demystified (The 7 Secrets of Jazz and Soul)

I purchased this book a while back and am about at the half-way point.I am a classically trained pianist and composer, but with absolutely no background in either organ or jazz. I decided to transition to the organ to begin some serious jazz studies, and chose this book as my starting point.It was absolutely an excellent decision.The world of the "Hammond Jazz" is a wonderful place with a fanatical following! In it there lives a plethora of supremely talented musicians, and lots of wonderful YouTube tutorials!However, in this world I have found a dearth of jazz-training literature that is…A. Hammond-specificB. Written by a pedagogical professional.This was frustrating as there is an abundance of such books in the jazz piano world.Mr. Landsberg fills this void. He is not only one of the best modern practitioners of the instrument, he is clearly also a professional (and gifted) pedagogue.This book has been excellent for me as I cross over from classical-piano. It’s step-by-step approach is exactly what I needed as I take on not only a new instrument, but also an entirely different way of conceiving of music.Additionally, it is presented in such a way as to be accessible to someone without the same level of musical training as myself. They would just need to move a little more slowly through the first several chapters.I highly recommend this book, and based on this experience am about to start working my way through Landsberg’s book on how to approach chord construction in the "Real Book".

Okay material but I expected more, still worth reviewing for musical organ ideas

My main problem with this book is the lack of fingering notation. The riffs are great but I need help with the fingers.

Leider erfüllt das Buch nicht meine Erwartungen an "Hammond Bass playing". Ich wollte Tipps haben, die vor allem den Einsatz des Pedals betreffen. Auf dieses wird aber im Buch so gut wie gar nicht eingegangen. Es geht eigentlich nur darum, wie man eine Bassline mit der linken Hand gestalten kann.Dass einfach mit dem Fuss bei schnellen Walkingläufen nur ein Ton mit dem Pedal mitgetappt wird ist ja allgemein bekannt - dafür brauche ich keine Anleitung.Um groovige Basslines zu haben ist allerdings meiner Meinung nach mehr Pedaleinsatz notwendig. Dies sieht man auch bei namhaften Organisten.Deswegen dachte ich hier mehr Tipps zu erfahren (z.B. welche Töne nur tappen - welche exakt mitspielen; Übungen für den Einsatz der Ferse und der Spitze usw...)Das Buch würde auch mit 20 Seiten weniger auskommen ( Leerseiten; sehr lockere Aufteilung). Notenbeispiele werden oft mit Buchstaben statt mit Noten dargestellt. Akkordleadsheets stehen in Tabellen.Für Einsteiger, die generell noch keine Basslines spielen können ist das Buch sicher brauchbar - aber um das Bassspiel mit der Hammond zu vertiefen nicht.

Viendo el título pensaba que el libro tendría un profucndo contenido en enseñar líneas de bajo al teclado. Y no es así, tiene algo de eso pero bastante poco. Tengo varios libros de teclado/piano, y este es de los más flojitos, no lo recomiendo.

Ottimo eserciziario per chi si sta avvicinando allo studio dell'organo Hammond. Consigliato. Ottimi anche gli esercizi su CD, esaustivi ed efficaci.
