In The Land Of Grey & Pink

Since I retired, I’ve been rediscovering the vinyl I bought years ago and then filling in the collection. I’ve known about Caravan - but only peripherally- and bought this based on the many positive reviews. The album is characteristic of the times - great organ work that is missing these days. It’s tight - but low key. Just a pleasure to listen to. I like side one more than side 2 - especially the title track. Just buy it!

So called Canterbury Scene gave several excellent groups and great progressive albums, some of them mixed with jazz and folk. Just to mention Caravan, Soft Machine or Gong.Caravan recorded several remarkably interesting albums of which "In the Land of Grey and Pink" is considered as one of the two best with "If I Could Do It All Over Again, I'd Do It All Over You"."In the Land of Grey and Pink" is not an album with "guitar fireworks", but rather one of complete sound and interesting musical structures with prog and jazz elements.The songs were built around a very recognizable keyboards sound, with excellent rhythm section and excellent vocals. They added flute, saxophones or mellotron to enrich their melodic structures. Some people would say that songs are catchy or easy to listen to, but they hide more complex structures.This is one of the prog albums that should not be skipped.

Il terzo e certamente più bello degli album dei Caravan, in questa versione in vinile rimasterizzato diventa perfezione pura.L’album è stato perfettamente riprodotto nella sua copertina gatefold, contenuto in una sleeve antistatica il disco suona in modo perfetto, silenziosissimo, senza quei click e fruscii che purtroppo troviamo troppo spesso in ristampe moderne stampate di fretta e senza controllo qualità. La rimasterizzazione ha ripulito e reso più dettagliato il sound dei singoli strumenti, che si avvertono perfettamente bilanciati nello spazio. La scena sonora è ampia e la dinamica perfetta, non compressa e senza quelle fastidiose alterazioni nel volume di riproduzione troppo spesso presenti nelle moderne masterizzazioni dal digitale. Un disco che non può mancare in una collezione di rock progressivo che si rispetti.

Leider gleicht das Öffnen eines Vinyl-Records heutzutage einer Lotterie, zu unterschiedlich sind die Pressergebnisse zahlreicher Reissues. Diese ist nicht nur liebevoll und nahe am Original aus den 70ern produziert sondern glänzt durch großartigen Klang und makellose Verarbeitung. Eine Freude!
