Q: How warm is this jacket? Thick enough for winter cold?

The jacket is fairly thin, but reasonably well lined and insulated. I wouldn't recommend wearing only this jacket if it is colder than the mid 40's unless you are wearing warm layers underneath. I just wore it in high 40-degree weather with a long sleeve flannel shirt over a tee shirt and I was comfortable.

Q: Is the Color tan, or is tobacco a darker color

The Orvis Heritage Field Coat is a great pick and you'll love the protection is provides with the waxed cotton shell. The Tobacco color is darker than a Tan. I'd say it's midway between a tan and a brown with some yellowish undertones.

Q: Why isn't this jacket made in America for that price?

I don't know why it's not made in the USA. I can tell you that it is a nice jacket. I actually wore it to dinner with my wife and friends. They all complimented me on how nice it was.

My husband wears XL also, it fits true to size . He doesnt like anything to tight
