Great for what I use it for!
I actually use this for a l fishing lure retriever called a "hound dawg". Pulls lures off of stumps ect. when stuck under water.Just hood the retriever on the end of the kite lins and let slide down line hooked to stuck lure it will entangle the lure thenjust reel both to the surfice!!

Tedious to use and not so robust
The string for some reason gets twisted and then it gets stuck in the outside of the wheel and jam the rewinding process.I am not using it again...not to mention it is still too slow and tedious to rewind the twine.

Go Fly A Kite
This reel is a big improvement over hand winding kite line. It works great. It is lightweight enough for my three year old to use. It could have been constructed a little better, but I believe it will hold up fine as long as it is not abused.

Worked great for me!
Okay, I've used it once. If/when it breaks I'll come back. But, okay, this thing is a PLASTIC reel only costing about $12-15, including shipping, depending on who you buy it from. I used it at the beach and it was great but, okay, don't use it in a tornado. If y9u want something REALLY study get a good fishing pole and reel. This was used with my recently purchased "Stowaway Parafoil Kite" and I was able to extend the entire 200' line to the end and reel it all back in without anything breaking. Yes, and it was probably due to reading some of the more negative reviews here about it, I was a tad paranoid it might break. But it didn't. Yet. (Come to think of it a good fishing reel for a kite sounds cool.)

Too light duty for strong wind
I wanted a kite reel that would make reeling our kite in in a decent amount of time. This reel is a nice size, the crank handle folds in to make it easy to stuff in a bag, and the line is good quality. Unfortunately like so many products that are priced low, the quality just isn't there. The day I tried it for the first time was quite windy, so maybe in lighter wind it would have been fine.In strong wind the whole thing feels flimsy and flexes as you reel the kite in, and felt like the crank handle was just going to snap off. I managed to break the lock right off, though that was due to the fact that I probably shouldn't have tried to use it as a brake! That boo-boo was definitely user-error!

Worth every penny!
Perfect addition to the kites! I have a 6 and 7 year old daughter and these made their first kite experience awesome!
