Live album
I made the mistake of buying this thinking it was studio cuts but it's a live album. It says it on the sleeve but I just didn't see it. Great collection of songs of you don't mind the live versions.

Molly Hatchet: BATTLEGROUND - Live Southern Rock PERFECTION!
Molly Hatchet really hit a grand slam with their new live album BATTLEGROUND! I didn't know what to expect with lead singer Phil McCormack having passed on to Rock and Roll Heaven but new lead singer Jimmy Elkins did not disappoint! Elkins style and talent is just as tough and gritty as Danny Joe Brown and Phil McCormack . Make no mistake about it though Elkins has a style of his own that is truly worthy of the Molly Hatchet name and legacy. BATTLEGROUND is also lead guitarist Bobby Ingram's finest live performance on record and that's saying a lot! With Hatchet being traditionally a three guitar outfit some people may have thought with only Ingram on guitar now that this album might be a disappointment but this is NOT the case ! Bobby Ingram has always been one of the absolute best guitarist in Southern Rock and very underrated. BATTLEGROUND was Ingram's chance to show out and he was more than up to the challenge! Tim Lindsay and Shawn Beamer on bass and drums respectively also turned in stellar performances in the Rhythm Section. John Galvin on keyboards also turns in a superb performance! The production and mix on this album are absolute perfection as well . The fans are really into this concert but each individual band members's performance comes through with a clarity and intensity that is truly phenomenal without being drowned out by the rowdy Hatchet Nation in any capacity. All in all BATTLEGROUND is one of the truly great live Southern Rock albums to ever be released. This album leaves no doubt in my mind that Molly Hatchet will be rocking concert halls and stadiums for years to come. My recommendation: Buy MOLLY HATCHET : BATTLEGROUND live NOW! You will surely be glad you did!

New singer is really good, needs more guitarists.
Being a long time Hatchet fan, I had to hear this album with the new singer. Jimmy Elkins pulls it off in grand fashion. I think he sounds better than Phil did toward the end of his tenure with the band. The single guitar sound does not work for me. However, this record has been touched in the studio. Before the first track is over you can hear a 2nd guitar. Bobby is a great guitarist but, Hatchet was born and bred with 3 lead guitars and this sounds a bit thin in that respect. The bass player does a good job of trying to fill in the gaps but, 1 bass does not equal 2 more guitars. I just can't justify 5 star review for that fact alone. I would like to hear some new material with this singer but, not before Bobby hires at least one more guitarist. We've not heard anything new since 2010. As much as I hate to say it, I think Hatchet's days are numbered.I have discovered that the 2nd guitar present in the recording is a harmonizer. This was not dubbed in the studio as I originally indicated. Thanks to the individual who pointed my error out to me. However, in my opinion, using a machine to play a part is akin to using a backing tape. I still feel that Bobby needs to hire another guitarist or 2.

Great live recording
The recording quality was very good, and Jimmy Elkins voice is excellent, seems to be a mix of something between Danny and Phil

Sounds like new old Molly hatchet!
Molly Hatchet battleground is absolutely phenomenal! Although there is no actual original members in the band. The musicians have kept true to the Molly Hatchet sound and legend. Just to hear the new guys do all the old stuff live and keep it blistering southern metals (not my words the original band members said that not only are they southern rock but their southern metal!). Plus some of the newer songs they wrote makes this a very well worth while city to keep in your Molly Hatchet catalog! Definitely recommend the CD. Actually I recommend getting Molly Hatchet whole collection this van is very much worth it!

Good live album
I was surprised how good it sounded. I heard the new singer on YouTube when he just joined the band. Was not impressed with his vocals. But oh my he is a combo of Danny Joe Brown and Phil McCormack. Another review talked about needing that second guitar. Yes totally agree. It was good with one but it would have been great with two guitarists. All in all a good live Molly Hatchet album worth the money. Check it out. I'm glad I did

It's not Danny but it's good.
It's a great latter-day release.

Tired.......going thru the motions
Replacing the original singer (D J Brown) with a soundalike ( P McCormack ) might be sound business sense but repeating it after the sad death of Phil McCormack has the whiff of a tribute band. You have to hand it to Ingram who owns the name,6 mths after Phil passed he has a new singer in place and now a new 'live' album,i would have been more sympathetic had it taken a bit longer and we had a new studio album to review.Despite releasing 5 albums under his leadership the set list still contains 50 percent from the original band..make your own mind up.Finally a 3 lead guitar band has been reduced to Ingram and some electronic gizmo called an Eventide Harmonizer... c'mon give us abreakThe actual performance is rushed the finesse the original band had long gone and this is not a patch on early Ingram led live albums and there have been a few.Sound quality not particularly impressive maybe more guitar players required rather than electronic wizardry requiredTruthfully if this is the best we gan get and no studio album forthcoming... maybe its time to retire the band... or try under your own name? theres a thought

Jimmy Elkins: voceBobby Ingram: chitarre, coriJohn Galvin: tastiere, sintetizzatori, piano, programming, coriShawn Beamer: batteria, percussioniTim Lindsey: basso, coriAnno: 2019Label: SteamhammerGenere: Southern RockTracklist:Bounty HunterWhiskey ManWhy Wont you Take Me HomeSon Of The SouthAmerican PrideEdge Of SundownFall Of The PeacemakersDevil's CanyonOne Man's PleasureThe CreeperIn The Darkness Of The NightJusticeAs Heaven Is ForeverI'm Gonna Live Till I DieBeatin' The OddsJukin' CityDreams I'll Never SeeThe JourneyFlirtin' With Disaster

Excellent
