The abilities in me: Type 1 Diabetes

Phenomenal stories.
Absolutely wonderful, clear and very clever explanations of different "Abilities". I purchased 3 of these books, Type 1 diabetes as my children's father has type 1, ADHD because my daughter is on the pathway and Autism because my Son is on the pathway. My daughter is 6 and loves to read now, we have very little ways of explaining to her whys she feels the way she does and does the things she does etc and when I discovered these books I snapped them up! She actually read them aloud, re-read the ADHD one and said "Mam, she sounds just like me..."I dont agree with trying to explain certain things to kids when they're so young and they don't always full get it and we don't relay it properly either.. she understood so so so much better by reading these books. Absolutely Fantastic and as an adult it even gives me more insight for them all too!I would give a Universe of stars as a rating if I was able.Fantastic books!

Excellent for my type 1 diabetic
An excellent book for my type 1 diabetic 6 year old. Easy to follow and nice illustrations, not too complicated and an easy read. I just wish they showed other insulin options such as a pump or cgm.

Inclusion
Absolutely beautifully written book, with beautiful pictures and i absolutely love that u can recall all the other characters from the other abilities books. As a mum with children who are super star siblings this made me and my children smile. It helped my children understand about other unique abilities. The author has really taken her time to try and help children reading this book to understand how amazing they are and more importantly to help them understand they are not forgotten about which is key. Highly recommended. Such amazing books the hole series.

BEST. ONE. YET!!!
I can’t get enough of these books! ❤️ Schools, hospitals, and families all around the world must be buzzing over this amazing series! Diabetes runs in my family and the way the author writes, just proves that she is one of the most compassionate human beings on the planet! She is very knowledgeable (obviously really gets to know these children - the way that the book encourages) and provides these children with a voice! A beautiful way to explain their unique conditions to others, and a way for them to understand it themselves! The illustrations are also next level! I haven’t seen anything like it any other book series ever! Amazing work by both!At the end of the day, all of these books give a beautiful message that the whole world needs right now! Acceptance, caring and understanding! I’m an adult and it even helps me understand and love people even more.Always talk to each other.. really get to know each other.. really listen.. and then you’ll have a better understanding of the special abilities that we all possess, regardless of our living conditions and whether we are born with a disability or not! We are all special and deserve to be here and we are all capable of compassion and happiness 😃Thank you Gemma Keir and Adam Walker-Parker, for sharing these amazing children with the world, and for inspiring others to embrace their ‘abilities’ within their disabilities.Always have courage and be kind! To everyone 🙂👍🏻

Another fantastic book in the collection
Another fantastic book in the abilites in me collection .A great way to explain the journey from diagnosis to returning back to school. This book is not only for children it’s for hospitals ,schools and adults that also can explain their condition to a child in very simple way .It is bright and colourful and the illustration is fantastic .The rhyming makes it fun for the children to read .Well done to the author and the illustrator keep up the good work you are doing an amazing job educating children ,helping them understand and teaching them inclusion.I would just like to add with ref to the recent comments that this book was based on my sons experience. When he was diagnosed at the age of 7Nowhere in the book does it indicate that he was not allowed to eat a cake but he was pictured with the healthy option at snack and dinner timeAlso as seen on the Diabetes websites healthy eating is always advisedGemma by no means has given any false information and is certainly not harmfull to children that itself is a false statement

Great book!
I bought this for my sons teacher to read to nis prep class. It was brief, to the point, it was in a language the kids could understand and it was clear in outlining diabetes. My son is on a pump so the teacher will have to adjust it from needles to pump. But otherwise it was good, a lot better than others out there
