Tradition with a Twist: Variations on Your Favorite Quilts

I made a queen-size Blooming Nine-Patch quilt, using oriental-design fabrics, and it is still my family's favorite over the numerous other kinds of quilts I have made since making this one. This book has proven to be one of my favorite quilting books out of the many I have in my personal library. The instructions are well done, and the possibilities are endless. I not only garnished lovely quilt designs from this book, but quilt-making and color blending techniques as well. Beginners might need to research and practice some of the techniques to be able to make these quilts, and I would recommend they start with one of the crib blankets so as not to be overwhelmed by the organizational techniques required for making these quilts with the least amount of stress. Intermediates and well-seasoned quilters should have no problem working with the authors' explanations. Personally, I don't really enjoy making "traditional" quilts with stars, hexagons, triangles, etc. I seem to gravitate towards blending colors and fabric designs into large canvasses of color and texture, and the quilts in "Tradition with a Twist" are ideal for that desired effect. FYI, having a Dritz® Petite Press, or a Clover Mini Iron, next to you will really help you breeze through the sewing process, because a lot of ironing is necessary for these particular quilts!

I love the instructions in this book. I have made a couple quilts, all turned out beautiful. I love the classic pattern instructions which can be downsized to make many items. I am relatively new to quilting and this is one of the best books I have purchased, without all the little blocks but, how to make a full size quilt.

Well, I was disenchanted when I found this book in my collection. But, I am glad I did. I really enjoyed seeing the colors and designs that are put forth, and the shear skill of the Authors. Great job ladies!!

This used book arrived in excellent condition and quickly. I was very skeptical buying this book used because it has been in circulation since 1996. It shows minimal wear and will be a great addition to my quilting instruction library. Will definitely purchase books from this seller again.

Found the title for this quilting book on Bing.The picture of the quilt I was looking for is not in this book so I was a little disappointed as the techniques I wanted for that quilt had a very different and hard to recognize example of that style which was cascading flowers. It's called the blooming 9 patch pattern.The price was not that bad, and had free shipping so I am sure I will be able to get enough of the others techniques out of it to make it worth the purchase.Amazon suggested I look at another book called 9 patch Pizazz which I absolutely loved.So check them both out, or do like I did and get the both...not a bad price through Amazon.Gloria

I wanted an easy to follow pattern for the "Blooming Nine Patch" quilt; I've collected Kaffe Fassett fabrics for just this undertaking and didn't want to mess it up or fool with trying to figure it out. Blanche Young and her daughter have taught many quilters to tackle a big project in small bites and I was looking for just that.

The book came quickly and efficiently. The patterns are amazing. Can't wait to try .

Wirklich tolle Inspirationen und Ideen. Davon werde ich sicher noch einiges umsetzen. Viele Erklärungen und Skizzen helfen, auch wenn man des Englischen vielleicht nicht so mächtig ist. Patchworkerfahrung ist jedoch meiner Meinung nach unbedingt nötig !!!

I have been looking for a long time for the patterns in this book. I am so grateful to have found it. It is a "keeper"/ excellent addition to any quilter"s collection.
