Only for the most pristine cooling systems. Any small debris can easily jam this thermostat making matters worse.
The road to hell is paved with good intentions. I've tried these Failsafe Therms before and have not had good experiences. They easily jam in the open position, which is not good. Better than jamming in the closed position which would lead to overheating, but still...If you have not tried these Failsafe Thermostats before and are unsure why they are different from other thermostats, take a close look at the picture. See the two thin, brass, jagged clip/hook-looking things, one on each side of the spring? They are what makes Failsafe thermostats different. And different is not always good. Those brass clips collect fine bits and pieces of debris and jam very easily. This is why using the word "FAIL" in the product name is appropriate, IMO.In all fairness, I feel it is important to stipulate the facts: I drive a vehicle that had cross-contamination between the engine and cooling system due to a leaking head gasket and which resulted in much wear and tear and costly repairs. At this point, though I have replaced the radiator, water pump, heater core, thermostat housing, hoses, and of course gaskets, my cooling system is not the cleanest. Cooling systems have infinite nooks and crannies to harbor debris and unless you have the means to replace ALL of the above components SIMULTANEOUSLY, PLUS decontaminate the engine block's water jacket, flush after flush will probably not eliminate the debris. It's like playing Whack-a-Mole. This debris can easily jam your Failsafe thermostat in the open position, causing your vehicle to not be able to properly warm up and adjust temp as needed. This causes anxiety and added confusion when trying to diagnose a stubborn cooling system problem. If your vehicle has a meticulously clean cooling system (congratulations), you would probably have much better luck with these thermostats. But then why would you need it? WINK.If your vehicle is having ongoing issues, like mine, you might want to stay away from these Failsafe gizmos and stick with a conventional (and much cheaper) thermostat, at least until your issues have been resolved. If you are considering one of these thermostats because you have had some overheating problems, you would be much better off just fixing the cause of the overheating and not wasting time and money and suffering mounting frustration by adding even more complication by introducing a very finicky, though well-intentioned, component to your engine bay. Just makes matters worse, eh?

Worked on my 2004 Grand Cherokee
NOTE: There are 2 different versions of this product, a 195F° model, and a 185F°. If you're looking for the one that adheres to Chrylser/Jeep factory specifications, this is the correct one. This is my 3rd thermostat I've put into my Jeep. The first I replaced just due to age while fixing a leak. The second was actually this product, which did its job when I stupidly overheated the engine trying to flush the air out of the radiator through the overflow. This product protected my engine from my own ignorance, and so I replaced it with the same one. They're simple enough to replace, anyone can do it if they just try. If I need another, I'll get another one of these.

Perfect fit
This was a perfect fit for a Jeep YJ. Easy to install and I really like the fail safe feature.

No gasket included!
I bought this thermostat because of the fail open guarantee oddly and unfortunately the rubber gasket that goes around the rim of the thermostat, so it seats properly in the thermostat housing is not included!

Protects my engine
Does the job but my 1998 Discovery pops them in the summer so I typically replace each fall. Pain but I've heard a stuck closed thermostat is what kills the rover engines. It's quick to replace but be sure to buy a gasket
