Terrible to Cut, Great to Carry.
For a quick summary scroll down to pros and cons.First off to be clear, I do not own these, but my good friend owns a pair and I use them all the time at his house and was there for the unboxing and first use. As far as travel goes these work great, It is a complete set that he keeps in the travel case and some times brings to my house. Unfortunately it falls apart when it comes to quality.they came fairly sharp out of the box but dulled to unusable condition after the first use. I maintain a set of Tojiro knives that stay razor sharp as well as countless other kinves both for cooking and other uses, i sharpen friends and families knives and sometimes sharpen sets for hire, so i know what i am doing fairly well. I have tried to sharpen and maintain these for him, despite using and apex edge pro system and Spyderco whet stones these knives are too soft to get a sharp edge much less retain it. I would not recommend this set to anyone who cares about the quality of the cutting edge on there knives.Pros;-looks great-convenient carryCons:-Dull immediately!-Will not retain edge at all.

A great set to learn with
I purchased this set of knives as during the lockdown in 2020 I took up cooking and needed a semi-decent set of knives. One of the reasons for purchasing this set, in particular, was low cost, and whilst that seems counter-intuitive, understand that when I learn something; I learn it well.I purchased a set of whetstones, a whetstone levelling block and stropping leathers along with this set, my goal; learn how to use a knife and learn how to keep a knife sharp.Out of the box (Well...Roll carrier), the knives were fairly sharp. The main use for me is the chef knife and the meat cleaver along with the honing steel. The cleaver required no sharpening and could take the unused part of a chicken wing clean off with no bone splinters being left behind. The chef knife is obviously my all-purpose slicey dicey blade and it slices and dices.Aesthetically, the knives are adequate. The steel is quite obviously machined and you can see that the blades haven't had the banding from the machining blended out with polishing (Autosol and elbow grease brings these up to a mirror shine if so inclined, I completed this process with my chef knife out of curiosity but it doesn't affect the performance of the blade). Fairly well balanced at the tang.Performance-wise, out of the box they were "fine". However, if you care about your blades, you'll learn how to sharpen and these blades are perfect to learn with (Cheap, cost-effective and can be razor-sharp).I actually cut along the back of my index finger with my freshly sharpened chefs blade to the point where I could see what looked like a tendon. I washed the wound and within 30 seconds it had sealed back up. There is barely a scar, there was no pain and it barely bled. (Please be careful!)So, for the reviewers giving these blades a poor rating due to sharpness, please remember that you have a duty to actually sharpen your blade to keep your kitchen safe and many artisan blades come unsharpened as a sharpened edge is brittle and fragile. This is the perfect set for a budding chef that has an interest in learning how to maintain the tools of the trade. I would also recommend using some food-grade mineral oil to coat the blade once sharpened. These shouldn't rust as they are stainless, but due to the flat blade vegetables stick to the side of the blade. Oil helps remove sliced veg and adds no flavour!
