Not as good as her others.
This was not quite as good as some of the author's other books. There was just something missing. The connection between some of the characters was "fuzzy" to me, (maybe because I was reading at bedtime) and others just seemed to be tossed in. Plus, the husband was a total jerk! Come to think of it, the main character wasn't too great either. Maybe I just wasn't in the mood for this story. There was so much more that could have been done with it.

I thoroughly enjoy Rachel Hore's books. I had read all of her other books and then found one I hadn't = "Dream House".Rachael Hore continunually improves in her writing with each book she writes. Hopefully there are more to come.

Predictable, disappointing novel that did not live up the standard of Rachel Hore's other novel A Place in the Sun which I had read earlier in the year.

A good read!
I really enjoyed this book! Good storyline and likeable and believable characters. I’ll admit there was a considerable degree of artistic licence regarding timescales, but, for me, it didn’t detract from the overall enjoyment of a good, escapist read! My one niggle is the rather rapidly wound up ending. It was just all a bit toooo convenient ...... I won’t go into detail, but find it a bit of a stretch that a 92 year old could have a 40 year old great grandson!! I suppose it’s just about possible - or not???

An OK read with a largely predictable plot
A busy stressed couple move with their children to East Anglia. The wife dreams of an old house, which becomes what she longs for. Over the following months her life is changed in ways she had not expected - some painful, some bringing comfort and delight. The novel started at a slow pace, with too much background and domestic detail. It improved as the pace quickened and the emotional temperature rose, but key parts of the plot were predictable from fairly early on. For me, this was an OK read, but no more.

A Pleasant Read
An enjoyable book with a flowing story. From when the family moved down from London it was all fairly predictable, even so it was a good read especially as i like stories about people and houses. One is left wondering if Dan really did love Kate or was it his missed inheritance he loved. I do agree with another review that the book maybe had a very quick ending but it was well worth the read.

Relaxing Read
A very pleasant & readable book, bit predictable towards the end. I actually felt this book would have benefitted from being a third longer with some more depth brought in to some of the peripheral characters (Kate's parents, Max's family ....) but this is a compliment ratter than a criticism! On a personal note I found the Location interesting as I know many of the places to which the author referred as I live in Norfolk.Oh what a pathetic specimen was Sam who I loathed throughout . Good, easy and relaxing read.

Dreamy...
Well written and constructed, although it didn't quite make my best books of the summer list, as it was a bit slow. I think the level of detail about things that didn't matter slowed it down – there was simply too much tea drinking going on for me. The emphasis was definiteIy on things that had happened in the past, and those were the parts I enjoyed most, whereas the new relationships which were being established seemed to lack depth. I bought it from Sainsbury's as a summer read, but then noticed it was first published in 2006. It felt dated somehow, and almost as if it may have been given another outing in the light of the author's more recent successes, rather than because of its own qualities.
