A very thorough book!
A must have book in your library!. Very detailed and revealing if you want to know a bit more about the finer details of what actually goes on behind the scenes in piloting one of these newer generation jets.I have had the pleasure of being invited to a few flight decks on my travels over the last 35 years and I do love avaition in all it`s forms, and this book written by serving airline Captains is a pleasure to absorb and `be there` with them as they take you through a journey from London to USA.

OK
This is a good book however it does not read well. I was wanting to feel what it is like to fly these jets: there is an entire chapter of the sequence of tasks performed by the pilots on a typical route from London to New York. However it is more a list of tasks performed. This makes it interesting yes, but not very readable. So I guess this book will appeal to the "anorak" but not those who wish to have a good read! You need to study this book rather than be entertained by it. There are other pilot authors who do provide a "lighter" version...Ask the Pilot by Patrick Smith for example.

A must read for budding aviators.
A classic. I read the first edition prior to joining the airline and it got me through the interview. I now have this copy to lend to any Air Cadets in my Squadron who are contemplating a similar career.

Boeing 777 guide
Very informative about how to fly a large jet airliner. A good read as a bedtime book. Many of the features described are on the aircraft in my flight simulator.

Different to 'handlling the big jets' but up to date.
This book is easily confused with 'handling the big jets' but is more up to date (2013). The earlier book was a classic being both technical and beautifully written. This one is entirely different (with different authors) and is very detailed in procedures etc, giving quite a bit of background theory. It certainly has its merits although I did not find it as compelling as the earlier book. However it is much more up to date than the earlier book (think Boeing 777) whereas the final edition of 'handling the big jets' finished with the introduction of the 747.
