ASUS Route AC3100 Dual-Band Wi-Fi Router with double gaming boost, AiMesh for mesh wifi system and MU-MIMO (Renewed)

I seem to have to buy a new Asus router once or twice a year, but when it's working, it's great. I'm on my 4th in 2 years, because they keep failing. Sometimes it's the 2.4 transmitter/receiver failing; sometimes, it's the AImesh transmitter/receiver failing. Sometimes it just bricks. However, when it's working, it's great—fast, easy user interface.I need 2 in my house because it always seems like once it starts hitting 10-12 wifi devices connected, it starts kicking things off in favor of the newly connected. Once I added a second router and used AImesh, that stopped. but then... every 6-12 months.. poof, one dies. So my review? When they work, they are great but don't expect it to live for long.

Seems to have good range. I like the Aimesh system seems to keep you connected to the strongest signal. My only problem so far has been the auto update feature. In August Asus pushed a new update out and I lost my internet connection. Normally if something like this happens I just power cycle the unit and all is good. This router is on a system at our 2nd home. We were gone when this upgrade happened and were not going to be back for over a month yet. I had my neighbor power cycle it a couple of times with no luck getting it working. This would not be a big issue except my sprinkler system also uses the internet to adjust the water times and frequency's.When I arrived and tried to boot the system it still did not work. I plugged into the router and it had defaulted even though no one had hit the reset button. Hope this does not happen again when I am not going to be here for awhile. I wish there was a way to turn off the automatic updates to at least be on my terms on doing the updates.

2.4 GHz WiFi worked very well. The 5 GHz failed after 1 hour. Rebooted, trouble shooted, nothing would work. Sending back and will try another. This unit was replacing a 5 year old Asus router that started to perform poorly. Really want the Asus to work so I can hook up Aimesh. It's apparent that this unit was not tested fully before they boxed it up and resold it.

I tried this and an AC-1900 router. The AC-1900 performed better, and my advice to others is to buy newer technology as opposed to the premium version of older tech.

I am not even going to pretend I set this up myself, I didnt but I can tell you my computer guy swears by this product. I wanted to save myself the $18.00 a month rental fee from my internet company and this is what he had me purchase. So far its been great. I do know the antenna attachment is horrible. I have to prop up the antennas against the wall or objects to get them to stand up without flopping over. Somehow I can't imagine that is the way antennas work. If it weren't for the antenna problem would have given it 5 stars.

I use these in a 4 ASUS router mesh setup to cover the property. Originally only the main SSID would propagate to mesh routers but recently they updated firmware so the Guest SSID (only) also can propagate.Web based management tool is nice and feature rich. Android based management tool is also good but I find if more difficult to use than the web based tool.

Continued WRT support is a huge plus, this unit as a mesh node is a great idea. There is good signal propagation and the price wasn’t horrible. The one frustration is that as a node it selects the 2.4 and the 2nd 5Ghz antennas, and this required my reconfiguring the ssid and pw. Not a really big downside but still not a positive.

I ordered 3 of these refurbish routers and 2 of them failed within a few days. It is a great router but the refurbish model is not reliable.
