Solberg FS-04-038 Filter Silencer, 3/8" MPT Outlet, 2-3/4" Height, 2-1/2" Diameter, 8 SCFM

The Solberg FS-04-038 replaced the poor quality air filter supplied with my recently purchased a Dewalt D55168 225 PSI air compressor. The air filter housing they provided is made of poor quality plastic. One of the flimsy plastic catches that holds the cover and filter element in place had broken off causing the filter to fall out and drop to the floor. This was possibly due to vibration, cold temperatures, damage during shipping, rough handling during installation, or all of the above. There are no identifying markings on either the filter housing or the filter element - See the attached photo of the filters for comparison. Someone is cutting corners and providing this inferior component with their compressors. I ordered the Solberg FS-04-038 to replace the inferior OEM component. What a difference! The Solberg is rugged metal with a their own filter element included. The new element has "Made in USA" and a patent number embossed on it. It fits perfectly in the compressor. I didn't notice any noise reduction, but the recovery time (180 back up to the 225 psi cut-off) dropped from 110 seconds to 90 seconds. This indicates that there is less restriction in the Solberg air filter product. Replace and upgrade your inferior OEM filter and filter housing now. The attached photo shows the unbroken and broken catches on the inferior plastic filter housing. The remaining catch could be easily broken with minimal force. The plastic one went Into the trash where it belongs.

I was soooo disappointed in my local big box home improvement store (I'd name names, but both HD and L have the same issue) in that they sell the end item (air compressor) but not the replaceable filter. I called the online number and the $9 part was $43 after standard ground shipping and handling (7-10 days) from the manufacturer. Arghh! I could possibly accept this if I was talking about a specialty part, but this is a common part that is cleaned or replaced periodically. When the cheap-o plastic OEM filter twisted off in my hand, leaving the threads behind, I found this Solberg part on Amazon that is 5 times better, and for only a little bit more money. I fits perfectly in the ⅜ inch pipe threads, has plenty of breathing room inside the threaded tube, and is muffled. Do I notice the pump being quieter? Not much, but every little bit helps. The biggest noise comes from the fan that keeps the motor and pump from overheating, and even though it is enclosed, the plastic shell doesn't hold back much noise. Does the muffling restrict airflow? Not that I've noticed.So if you have a Husky 33 gallon 165 psi oilless like mine, then this is a perfect fit and improved replacement for your OEM plastic part.

Going to be putting this on my Jeep's York compressor for "on-board" air. I have one on another Jeep doing same thing. It's a very awesome filter for a few reasons. The filter is replaceable, it's very small, exactly the SCFM rating that I need, AND the best part is how its made with a full metal casing that has a tube air inlet. For the under engine environment, mud, dirt, and everything else about off road 4x4 this is a perfect design. Absolutely can't find a better filter to use in its place. I would go higher than a 5 star if I could...kind of like an A+.

Worked well and fit in application. Much better than cheap plastic unit that came with compressor.’
