Keeping it simple but rich.
"What Do I Say" is filled with nuggets of insight and direct "how-to's" for clinicians of any background and level of accomplishment. The authors model self-awareness and an ability to be direct and honest with themselves and the clients they work with. This is delightfully refreshing. This is a book that will be thumbed and earmarked; margins will be written in. It is a book that can be read cover to cover as the authors build on their teaching points. It is a book that can be picked up in a moment of confusion and paralysis to give direction and an opportunity to embrace the proverbial grist for the mill.Linda and Charlie gently but directly encourage clinicians to explore and trust in their own boundaries. Through this message they let us know that there is always more to see and work with. This is a book that should be on every clinician's bookshelf and every psych student's backpack.

All new therapists need to read this book
All new therapists should read this book. This book guides you in understanding what is really behind clients' questions and provides tips on appropriate ways of responding. They don't teach you this stuff in school! The authors give lots of concrete examples from their own experiences, which were personal, insightful, and at times entertaining. This book has prepared me to not be caught off guard when a client asks me a question I wasn't expecting. I highly recommend reading this book!

Are you ready for some answers?
If there is one book to pick up and read cover to cover before and during training as a therapist, this is it. The authors have a wealth of knowledge and experience on tackling all client questions. I'm impressed they were able to get so much useful information in one book. Add this to your bookshelf, you'll be happy you did. R. Williams, coauthor of The Mindfulness Workbook for Addiction.

Highly recommended
I've been counseling for over 14 years and wish this book had been available to us during grad school. It's well written, easy to understand and gives insightful information regarding questions and challenges that all counselors face at some point. It's a wonderful reminder to those of us who have been in the field for some time. It's a great asset for anyone just starting out.

Unique book
Great book. It deals with all the questions that us counsellor will encounter at one point or another for which we don't always know the best way to answer. Well written, informative, thought provoking.
