EatonWiring TR7745BK-BOX Combination USB Charger with Tamper Resistant Receptacle and Box, 15-Amp, Black Finish

Let me start by saying I'm a techie not an electrician. We are always charging our tablets and smartphones so I wanted to find a good USB receptacle. I had decided between this receptacle and the Leviton T5630-W 2.1-Amp High Speed USB Charger/Tamper-Resistant Receptacle, 15-Amp/125-Volt, White. I wanted the higher 2.1-Amp for the USB port for our tablets. I decided to pay the higher price and go for the Cooper USB receptacle because I liked the look of it better and because it had the normal two electrical outlets.Tamper Resistant:I recently replaced all of my receptacles with tamper resistant receptacles (Leviton T5325-W 15 Amp 125 Volt, Tamper Resistant, Decora Duplex Receptacle, Straight Blade, Grounding, White ) so it would be safer for our young daughter and I was tired of plugging and unplugging the plastic covers. I can say that they can sometimes be difficult to plug and unplug electrical cords but I found this to be the case with tamper resistant receptacles in general not just this receptacle. I don't mind this small inconvenience because in return I get a safer environment for our family. With that said I had no problems plugging in 3-prong and 2-prong cords into this receptacle.Size:The receptacle is pretty deep. It is deeper than a GFCI receptacle. The instructions call for the box size for the 15-amp receptacle to be 3 1/8 inches deep. I was able to easily fit it into my 2-gang wall box that already had a Z-wave light switch (which is deep) - Jasco 45609 Z-Wave Wireless Lighting Control On/Off SwitchInstallation:Installation was a breeze, easier than a normal receptacle. The wires are already stripped and the box contains 3 wire nuts. All you have to do is match your colors and your ready to go.Charging:I'm able to simultaneously charge my laptop (using the normal outlet), a tablet, and a smartphone (both using the USB port) quickly.Overall very happy with this receptacle. I obviously can't speak to the longevity of the product but it looks good, it is easy to install, and it does a good job. I paid $24.97 and think it was worth the money. I would definitely recommend it!

I'd originally bought the older version (Cooper Wiring Devices TR7740W-K) with the single outlet and dual USB ports, but that one only gave 700mA on the USB ports, so our phones/tablets/etc were charging at a snail's pace. I bought a couple of these, then moved the older ones to the guest bedrooms.Pros:- You get 2 fast-charging USB ports without losing any standard outlets.- Fits into a standard one-gang old-work box (if you are replacing a standard 2-plug outlet, 99% chance this will work for you)- Comes with all the wires/wirenuts/etc needed for installation! Cooper Wiring Devices TR7740W-K does not come with any pigtails, so I had to buy some solid 14 AWG wire at Lowe's to complete the job (and of course they only sell in rolls of 50ft or more). For this product, you get pre-installed leads that you can wire-nut as pigtails directly onto your existing in-wall wiring. Very handy! I would buy these over the single-outlet version for this feature alone.- Fits standard rectangle-cutout outlet wall plates.Cons:- The outlets are pretty deep, so it can be a tight fit trying to stuff all the wiring back into a single-gang old work box. I didn't have any issues, but I did have to maneuver the wires around a bit. ** Make sure your wire nuts are on right! **Overall: Great outlets, and I've been recommending them to everyone I know that can use pliers. I've installed 4 of these now, and they've all worked perfectly to charge: iPhone 4S, iPhone 5, Galaxy S3, Galaxy S, HTC One X, Kindle, Kindle HD 8.9", etc, etc.*** Use your circuit breakers, people. Better to be safe than sorry. It's a 5-minute install, but don't let that fool you into thinking it can't be dangerous. ***

This was a simple installation and if you put this in a double gang box next to another outlet, the installation is even easier.I wasn't expecting it to have wires coming out the back that you can just wire tie to existing wiring or to some other outlet. The wire nuts to tie it up to another line also come included, which is great. The wire can't be removed and isn't your standard 12 gauge wire either, which was surprising, but is instead is a lot of flexible, stranded wire. It's definitely easier to work with and makes installation a walk in the park.After getting it connected up, it seems to work just fine. However, I found that it's NEAR IMPOSSIBLE to plug something into one of the outlets. I didn't have a problem when I used my wiring tester to make sure it I got the wiring up but after that, I went to plug in my stereo and I had to try for 5 minutes to get it in. The other outlet worked fine, then got hard, then cleared up again. Is it tamper resistant? YES, so much so that I can't get anything in there. So, while that's annoying, I don't think it's true of all the other outlets so it's possible I ended up with one with a slight issue. If it gives me more problems, I'll probably return it but for now, it's fine. It's not in an area I will be removing the plug very often anyway so I'm not too concerned.I haven't used it very long at all but I would say it works for exactly what I need and will be easy to install, although it is a bit large.

Well built product, outstanding quality

Overpriced, big time. Now that most Costco have that product in bundle (2 for 20$) this thing is not worth it anymore.
