Keeps the cat busy
For Christmas I bought 3 packages of "icicle" type LED light strings for the outside of the house. These particular sets came with a "Try Me" button on the box, connected to a little battery pack inside, to demonstrate what the lights looked like in operation. Cool. I salvaged the push button switches and battery packs (2 double AA's) and connected one of these little laser diodes to each. Just threw them together with hot glue, really - nothing fancy, but now we have new cat toys on the cheap. Laser is nice and bright, and fairly coherent for across the room use.

These are bright red and hook up directly to a cr2032 or other 3v battery easily.
Mounting laser to shark. No I am not kidding. I have a buddy who paint and mods minis for gaming. He has a 2 inch shark figure that is getting a laser. These are bright red and hook up directly to a cr2032 or other 3v battery easily.

These are cool little diodes
These are cool little diodes. Depending on your use, you'll probably need an additional lens. I purchased both the 3 volt and 5 volt version. One word of warning, don't accidentally pump 5 volts through your 3 volt diodes, you'll "let the smoke out".

Cheaply made, they will break or go out quiet quickly but its expected at the price that they are being sold at.

Got them. They ran perfectly off 3V straight. (No resistor added, just the 3.3V pin on my Arduino.)

the divergence on these is horrible. Only get if you do not car if the dot is large

Works great, it's possible to adjust the focus. These really are brass though so they're pretty heavy.
