Amazing Classics that should be far more widely read! Full of tears and joy!
My great grandmother introduced my to, "A Girl of the Limberlost," in my teens. I was immediately smitten with Gene Stratton Porter's world. Elnora is a sweet girl, with a heroic temperament, and a mother, who holds a misguided grudge. Her neighbors adore her. She starts out trying to earn her way, for just basic things, from the very beginning, and is very strong of spirit, through all of the plot twists, and struggles in her life. The descriptions of the swamp lands she lives in, are absolutely beautiful, as well! . "A girl of the Limberlost" is actually a distant sequel to "Freckles," and "Freckles" is equally good, as full of gorgeous scenery, and heartrending as it's sequel. I love that book, as well, but the sequel is the one that makes me think of my great grandmother.

A book for my 84 year old mother
My mother instilled in all of my siblings a love of reading so when she was telling me about this book she read as a child I had to look and see if I could find one for her as a surprise gift. Low and behold if Amazon didn’t have a copy…..she loved it 😍

Early 20th century picture of rural life.
Other than the fact that this book is somewhat hard to read due to lots of conversations written in Irish brogue, they are great stories well worth your time.

Great story, terrible format
Love the stories but won't but from again. The format is terrible. Making it almost unreadable. Tiny font, practically no margins, chapter ran together. Very disappointed.

indecent cover
The cover of the book does not portray what is inside. The cover makes it look like a lusty romance novel. It is nothing of the kind.

Excellent value, great gift
My mum was delighted with this gift, and has already read the book. Great to have two books in one.

Older books have lots to teach us.
My Dad introduced me to Gene Stratton Porter as a young teen. I have lost my copies of the books with moving and loaning out to friends. This purchase was to replace books that I loved as a kid and wanted to read again.
