Q: Can these be used on the wound bed of open wounds?

No you would need a barrier over the wound like a gauze 4x4 , or non stick pad but your doctor should have specifics on how to dress the wounds specifically

Q: how thin are these - .3 mm, .5 mm, .8 mm?

They are very thin but work great! My husband has to wear a patch and it doesn't stick well, my daughter suggested these and I put them over the patch for 7 days and have had no issues with them.

Q: Is the adhesive only on the edge or does it cover the entire bandage?

Like all of these transparent dressings the adhesive covers the whole surface of one side of the dressing.
