Funny, original and just creepy enough...
A deeply oddball, and pretty entertaining low budget mash-up of character study, humor, and metaphysical horror. It’s not like anything you’ve seen before, but it achieves that effect by taking a LOT of elements you’ve seen before, and having fun combining them in novel ways.A young guy - Michael - who seems to have his life pretty together goes out to try and save his depressed, meth-head, gun loving friend – Chris – who is living alone in the middle of the woods. The unanswered question of who took the video of this Chris acting so crazy sets the tone for this film full of unexplained weirdness that creates a generally tense and creepy atmosphere despite any clear resolution to many of the questions (that's only one of several meanings the pun-laden title seems to have).Much of the film is the relationship between these two men, and how Chris reacts to being forced to go cold turkey after Michael handcuffs him to a wall pipe. Both the acting and dialogue wavers between fun, honest, touching and a touch amateurish. Chris has one of the easier, least believable sudden withdrawals from serious addition I can remember seeing on film. But this film doesn’t seem too worried about being real. It seems far more interested in being entertaining and leaving you wondering just what things mean; that old, creepy photo, the escapee from a local loony bin who knocks on the window at night, the fact that they are on Indian lands with a bad history. Do these things mean anything? Or do we just assume they do from a lifetime of horror and suspense films? The film-makers aren’t always saying, they want us to wonder for ourselves… and to smile while we shiver just a bit. I’ll be curious to watch this again. It seems like a repeat viewing will either reveal its shallowness or uncover hidden depths…

Watch The Endless first, but I loved this movie!
Resolution is technically the first of 2 distinctly different movies that share the same universe (with the 2nd being The Endless). But trust me, check out The Endless first and then come back to this movie. Resolution is an interesting and wild ride-- but it benefits from the better world building that The Endless expands on.I dont like giving too much away in my reviews- specifically if a movie is good and worth watching, and Resolution certainly fits that. The plot begins with one friend who has his life opening up positively in front of him handcuffing his junky bestfriend and holding him hostage till he comes down from his high to try and break his addiction over the course of several days. But slowly, strange and ever more impossible things begin to unfold. The movie finds itself falling into a lovecraftian time bending mind melting... and its something worth experiencing on a rainy day at home.

A good story though not quite a great movie
"Resolution" tells the story of the "gun crazy tweaker" Chris and his buddy, Mike, at the cabin the older brother visits during "The Endless." It's not a great movie. The dialogue runs long, and the scene pacing can be slow. Chris and Mike deal with increasingly bizarre indirect paranormal experiences while working through their personal relationship (not too different from "The Endless" where the relationship development focuses on two brothers). The paranormal and horror elements are fairly understated. The randomness of the characters is a bit difficult. Watching this after watching "The Endless" seems best (despite that being the opposite of chronological release order and the event timeline). The two movies together are a good pairing, but you may hit pause and walk out on "Resolution" a few times just because you need a break from the back and forth onscreen.

Great Extras
The Movie: Great! I loved it, and I've been following the director's work since. The Blu-Ray: Since this is a product review, not a movie review, the blu-ray is great. Package is basic case and disc, but its the bonus features that matter. There's some excellent and funny extras, that really give you an idea of how fun this shoot must have been. The deleted scenes are worth the watch, and the gag reel is actually legitimately funny. This pattern is true for their other movies' extras, too, if you were debating those blu-ray purchases. It really feels like you get a sense of the director's personalities, beyond the scope of the films they make.If you liked the movie, the blu-ray is an excellent purchase for all the extras its jam packed with.

Character-driven horror at its finest
Mike wants to help his friend Chris kick his crack addiction, so when Chris refuses to go to rehab, Mike handcuffs him to the wall of his cabin, forcing him to go cold turkey. It's well-acted with great dynamic between the two leads. I feel it could've made for a pretty decent drama if the filmmakers had just left it at that. Thankfully, though, because dramas really aren't my cup of tea, there's more to the story. Mike keeps finding weird old photos, books, and films. What's on them and what they're about isn't really clear, but it's creepy nonetheless. Eventually, he finds a video of himself and Chris, taken unknown to them a couple days earlier. That's all I'll say of the plot. Resolution is a fantastic movie, a slow pot-boiler that's well worth a watch for anyone serious about finding good (if not particularly scary) horror movies or just ones that stand out above the typical cheap slop.

No budget miracle!
I came across this movie after watching the endless, which is by the same filmmakers. This is actually a kind of prequel to that film, with the main cast comprised of just two people. The guy who plays drug addled Chris does an incredible job with his role. Everything in this film seems natural and not forced and does not betray the fantasy elements with acting that you can actually detect as acting. It has to be seen to be believed!

Resolution okay but doesn't live up to critical praise
I remember I liked it at the time of viewing, but don't ask me to give a synopsis. It wasn't that memorable. I think it's a take-it-or-leave-it type film that definitely does not live up to the praise given to it from film critics.
