Speaking Boricua: A Practical Guide to Puerto Rican Spanish (Jared Romey's Speaking Latino Series)

I've always wanted to lean how to speak Spanish. Yjere are so many variations of it though. I still can't think in Spanish because I don't get to speak it enough. So I am far from fluent. I need to spend some time in Puerto Rico, Cuba, Ecuador, Mexico o El Dominican Republic where I can learn some of the local colloquialisms, short-cuts, cultural differences etc. This book goes a long way toward speaking Puertoriqueno Spanish the way they speak it on the island

It's a fun book, especially if you've been exposed to the Spanish spoken in Puerto Rico.

Speaking Boricua: A Practical Guide to Puerto Rican Spanish. I loved this book. I have been studying Spanish for over four years and had no problem communicating with People from Mexico, Honduras, Guatemala, etc. Enter the Puerto Ricans! I started going to a Puerto Rican church here in Cairo, Georgia, and was startled at the difficulty I was having understanding their Spanish. "Speaking Boricua" is loaded with information to help you learn the unique Spanish of the wonderful people of Puerto Rico.

Having grown up in Puerto Rico and used or heard most of these phrases first hand, I have to say that the author has gotten quite a few of them wrong. It is interesting and funny, and very thorough.I downloaded the kindle version and have taken to adding notes to all the phrases and words that he got wrong, or somewhat wrong.I don't think this book would be very useful for learning how to speak Boricuan, more for learning how to understand spoken Boricuan.

A very useful reference guide if you spend lots of time in Puerto Rico and converse with the locals. I highly recommend.
