The Wreck of the Titan

Titan
I did not realize that this book was a series of short stories, one of them being about the Titan. Even still, it was well written and an enjoyable read

I expected a better story. The plot had potential but was not developed very well. I bought it because of the similarity to the actual sinking of the Titanic, but the actual sinking part of the story was not covered in much detail at all and the rest of the story was not developed very well.

Amazing forecast of the famous wreck of Titanic 14yrs before
This author was amazingly accurate about the wreck of the famous ship even calling his fictional vessel the Titan. Reasons for the sinking were the same human error and arrogance. He also has a couple of other tales here that foreshadow technological achievements that had not yet happened when he died in 1915. Amazing!

Eerily true
Loved this short story and how amazing it describes the titanic disaster.

Really enjoyed it!
Aside from the fact that this book has regained popularity, due to the 100th anniversary of the Titanic's wreck, it is a very easy and enjoyable read. It couldn't cease to amaze me the odd similarities between the fictional wreck of the Titan depicted in the story and the real life wreck of the Titanic, which happened many years after this was published. Having said that, I really liked the scene where the hero fights off a hungry polar bear to protect a child, whom he saves from the shipwreck. Highly recommended!

The Wreck of the Titan or Futility
Bought this book for my daughter, who had read it several years ago. She had gotten from the library on an inter-library loan. We were glad to find a copy in such great condition, hard back, still in print. The book was published before the Titanic was built, yet it tells the story of a similar ship being built & having the same type of incident where it hits an iceberg & sinks. This was a gift.

Futility...
Enjoyed reading this novel of the Titan, an ocean liner that was considered 'unsinkable' only tobe proved otherwise after coming into contact with an iceberg...Unbelievable that this novel was written years before the unsinkable Titanic was stopped by aniceberg. I just had to read it and see the parallels for myself. Very interesting....

More than a book predicting the fate of Titanic.
This book, or at least the story of the Titan is famous for predicting the fate of the Titanic, so for that reason alone it is worth reading but it is more than that. This is a collection of sea faring stories of which the Titan is but one. The sinking itself is more a plot point than the main feature of the story and it is clear that rather than a maiden voyage, the story says that 3 successful journey's before the fateful voyage and meeting of the ice berg, and rather strangely,a polar bear. The crew don't really come out too well either. Although the first story in this book it is not really the best, or the most lengthy. That honour belongs to Pirates, tells the story of an American Naval Ship hijacked by escaped convicts who discover an officer on board and from trying to escape to Africa become pirates.A rather strange story follows a potential war between Japan and the US and sailors going blind through some strange Japanese weapon. It is the weakest story of the set.The final story is about love, jealousy and submarines. That in itself should get you hooked.

interesting
can see a couple of coincidences with TITANIC story but not enough for all the fuss, ok story but avoid if your a titanic fan youll just be dissappointed. the print in this is a tad small, and if you want to read this anthology ( the titan is only one short story, not as many make out, a novel), then this beats buying dearer prints to be dissappointed by.

The Wreck of the Titan
Came through quickly and well packaged. Present for my husband who thinks it's great - lots of other short stories too. Print a little small so need good light to read

OK read
Not certain what is required for a review here, in view of the fact that the novel was written in the late 19th century. The story is very much"Boy's Own" stuff but does bear an uncanny resemblance to the Titanic disaster. The download however worked well and was what I expected.

Probably a good story, I'll never know.
The print of this book was so small I couldn't read it without a magnifytng glass. Not my idea of enjoyment.
