Fits P-440 overhead Patient Lift
This fits the model P-440 overhead patient lift made by Prism Medical and Handicare. It also fits my old Panasonic VHS camcorder, but that is another story. Replacement of the P-440 battery is of medium complexity. Not really very difficult, but you will need two batteries and the right tools. The housing is secured by four Phillips screws, but the problem is that they are seated in a deep hole so you cannot use a regular screwdriver bit in a drive extension because the hole is not a big enough diameter to fit. You could use a regular Phillips screwdriver, but it takes so many turns to remove the screws, I would not recommend it. Instead, you need a Phillips bit with an extra long shank like the one in this set made by Horusdy:https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0827KJ8B2/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1I would also recommend using a power screwdriver, not a drill, because the case is somewhat flimsy and it is easy to strip the threads on the plastic housing. Once you get the screws loosened, continue turning them because they are longer than you think. Make sure the red power switch that normally stays on at all times is off. Then carefully pull back only the section of the case the screws came out of. This will expose the batteries. The two batteries are taped together and held in place by a bracket secured by two hex head or Allen screws. So you will need a bit to fit, which is not as difficult to find but is also in the Horusdy set. After you get the batteries loose, remove the tape on the end where the wires connect to expose the battery terminal clip. It just pops off, which is why it also needs to be secured by black electrical tape. So tape the two new batteries together, making sure you get them oriented the same as the old ones. Put the battery terminal clip back on and secure it with electrical tape. Replace the bracket holding the batteries and then put the housing back together. Take your time to make sure the tiny ridges and slots on all sides are aligned properly, then replace the screws holding the housing. Don’t forget to turn the red switch back on because the batteries will not charge with it off.
