Q: how much protection dose the bag have? dose it have more padding then a laptop sleeve?

It's about the same padding as a laptop sleeve. Protects from scratches and the like but not much padding to protect from say you bang it against the wall (I've done that) just makes it easy to transport and store it away

Q: is it wide enough for the laptop cords and the drawing tablets

I have an HP laptop it is about 15 inches by 9 1/2 inches. I usually carry the laptop, my chiller pad and would have room for the cord but it would be tight. If you take out the chiller you should have enough room for the cord and laptop. This case is not padded it is fairly lightweight. So if you are looking for something to protect your laptop for carrying often you may want to choose a heavy weight product.
