Great for coaching and life lessons
If you’re a parent wanting to coach or help coach, this is a great book to help bring life lessons to the kids. It provides excellent examples of how to help explain adversity to kids but also how to teach them about overcoming adversity. Highly recommended

"Winning Every Day" has won me over!
First off, I'm also reading Jim Tressel's "The Winners Manual" and so far the differences are night and day. Team loyalties put aside, I feel both are very similar in the aspect of helping others in football as well as in life, but I was simply engrossed in Lou Holt's book as he writes in such a way, such as the way he describes it, as just like if he was talking to you face to face in person. I really liked that aspect of his writing. Even so, the few parts with editing mistakes and typos were annoying but still didn't detract too much from the soft easy flow of his prose. Tressel on the other hand, was a slow start that led (more than once) to rolling eyes and thoughts of "get on with it already!" Gutsy, honest, and critical, Lou takes a hard look at his organizations throughout the years, his many players coached, and even at himself with his marital relationship. Although I am a Notre Dame fan, I enjoyed that this book wasn't just about Notre Dame and about the best parts of his coaching career, but every aspect of it with both the good and the bad! "Winning Every Day" has won me over!

Great Read From a Great Coach
Coach Holtz was the face of Notre Dame during my 4 years as a student there in the early 1990's. This book captures the humor stories, drive, motivation and philosophies of this amazing motivator, coach and person. Overcoming great odds to achieve success, Holtz conveys his philosophy of focus, discipline, perseverance, dedication and humility in this entertaining and easy to read book. Covering elements from his own life, as well as stores of friends, fellow coaches and former players, Holtz brings a touch of humor, homespun yarn and approachability to his philosophy. Having seen it in action during college, he does live the philosophy - and truly is a driven, disciplined and humble individual. A great read by a great coach.

Enjoyable read
This is a easy read where many of Lou's points hit close to home. There are instances where he dwells on points too much but those are few and far between. His story-telling is excellent and I thoroughly enjoyed his advice. This is a motivation book that gets you in a positive frame of mind. I read a lot and this book ranks among the top if you need to create a positive environment about you.

Great Read, Some Very Good Insights
I have read 100's of very poor books on the Success Principles, Self Esteem, Laws of Attraction, Planning, Time Management etc, in the last few years. I started reading books about goal setting, mind control and success principles in 1985. I have used what I learnt from my extensive reading, coupled with academic qualifications, business and psychology experience, to create a consulting company, teaching seminars to corporations in strategic thinking, leadership, marketing, goal setting and business development. I also use the principles to help individuals, by guiding them as a Peak Performance Coach, teaching people cognitive methods to help goal set and enhance their lives beyond what they could do on their own. As such, I read as many books as I can, on a variety of subjects to enhance my knowledge. This is the first book I have read by an American Football Coach. Coming from the UK, although I have spent a great deal of time in the USA, on a University exchange and now working as a consultant and University Lecturer, I know nothing about American Football or Lou Holtz. I bought this book as John Maxwell, mentions Holtz a lot in his books. I therefore thought I would read a new style of book.I must admit, some parts of it bored the pants off me, but this is only because I have virtually no knowledge of football. I did not understand large swathes of the book, when it talked about football tactics, game play or Lou's historical career.Where this book excels is in its examination of what is needed by either a coach or player to excel. These skills are then translated into real steps we can all use in; life, business or relationships. There are some brilliant insights into what we can do to make all aspects of our lives better. It as much a sports book, as it is a success book, as it is a leadership skills book.Holtz, points out there is a game plan we can play, to ensure a better life. He sets out 10 key points, to create more success. There is a chapter devoted to each. Some chapters are brilliant in there ability to create introspection, in what we need to do to be more successful. Following the game plan in life, will, I am sure enhance your success in whatever you want to do.This is a very good book, and I can happily recommend it.
