The Civil War (Ken Burns): 9 Video Boxed Set (PBS Home Video)

The set is over 30 years old and looks almost new. Probably only played a couple of times. It's the original version, the dvd set looks edited. I'm very pleased with the purchase.

Full of photos, commentary and amazing detail this video series is one of most informative history lessons I have ever engaged in. If you want to learn everything about the Civil War - before, during, after - then watch this series. I watched it over several weeks and always looked forward to viewing the next one.

Every now and then television achieves greatness and realizes the promise possible. Unfortunately, these examples tend to be few and far between. In the 1950's NBC's "Victory at Sea" was such an example. There have been others since, often imports from Britain. Ken Burns' "Civil War" on PBS is almost certainly the very best television yet produced in the United States. It should be a requirement for anyone who wishes to understand the great cataclysm in our history. It is also superb entertainment encompassing remarkable and outstanding graphics combined with excellent narration and commentary.
