Film of the Year
Excellent Movie ! So Entertaining, with hilarious consequences of a unique plot. I just wish I lived in World after, the lights flicked back on after 12 seconds, there was no Piers Morgan & no mention of Brexit.

What a disappointing film.It nevers bothers to explore it's premise or the ripples that The Beatles disappearing would cause. It never questions how the songs would be received in 2019 and the many factors that went into that music being so popular. It has some poisoous ideas about how art comes to be not mattering as long as it's there for an audience to consume. It's love story is weak and unconvincing. The main decision the character has to make is (inexplicably) between love and success (that isn't theirs) and they decide love is better. John Lennon is roped in for a poor taste cameo to illustrate this point by suggesting he would have lived a long and happy life without success. It seems disrespectful to me to assume John Lennon didn't live exactly the life he wanted and achieve exactly what he wanted to and using a tragedy to suggest it would be great if he'd never been successful because 'look LOVE STORY, love good, fame bad' is lazy and insulting. It just a pointless waste of time and has so many half baked themes that it doesn't even know what point it would bd trying to make if it had one. Also it spends a good portion of its running time being an advert for a very wooden Ed Sheeran and his music.

Brilliant!
I won’t bother going over the premise of the film, as that’s widely available elsewhere. Whatever you do, don’t compare this to ‘Rocketman’ or ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’, as they are biopics where this is fantasy, and suffice to say it’s damned good too. Don’t concern yourself about how Earth was suddenly plunged into darkness and why Jack Malik is the only person who remembers the Beatles. Just enjoy the film and the amusing jokes spread about. So, what’s the Blu-ray version like? The transfer is excellent, as it should be, and there’s plenty of bonus features. For the most part these are well worth seeing but things such as interviews with the director and writer I can live without. That being said, I quite enjoy commentaries as the why, where and how make more sense when you see it at the same time. The deleted scenes are always worth watching, and in this instance there are a dozen of them, but a ‘Director’s Cut’ with those scenes inserted would be far better, as viewed in isolation they do lose some of their impact. However, much like the alternative opening and ending, and having watched those two it was wise to change them both, those excised scenes wouldn’t have added much to the film anyway. (The aborted recording for Nutters Italian Ice Cream is the best of the bunch - “She loves IT yeah, yeah, yeah” indeed). Also included in the bonuses are three songs performed live at Abbey Road, a gag reel (but there are a mere four and aren’t at all funny), a bit about the writer and director as told by the actors alongside some background filming; a bit on the Jack and Ellie characters as told by themselves, Ed Sheeran being in the film, and a short Kate McKinnon feature. By the way, if you still wonder how Earth was plunged into darkness for 12 seconds, an explanation, of sorts, is on the commentary.Could a film such as this have worked with another artist? I doubt it, as the songs of the Beatles are so well known that even album only tracks are familiar to many, a claim no one else can manage. Fortunately, Jack (and Himesh Patel sings everything) doesn’t simply copy the songs as we know them; witness the near grunge version of ‘Help!’.You might not watch those extras more than once, but don’t let that make it a deciding factor. It’s a brilliant film.

A brilliant example of a true British film - well made, perfectly executed
We loved this film. Tasteful, artful, funny, emotional - A true British Great!

Disappointing on so many levels.
Great idea for a movie which deserved better execution tbh. Dull, unfunny and charmless. The main lead was miscast. Maybe he was let down by truly underwhelming direction and writing from Danny Boyle, Richard Curtis and Jack Barth respectively. An opportunity missed...by a mile. I’d advise to wait for this free on Prime. Not worth the pennies. 1 star for a ‘cameo’ that proved surprisingly poignant. The other star is for 2 minutes worth of the sublime Sarah Lancashire. Fair warning, James Corden & Ed Sheeran make appearances.

Thank you Richard Curtis
I like Richard Curtis Films except for Mr Bean maybe because Rowan Atkinson is playing Jaques Tati who is trying to extend his range with Mr Bean. Having said that Yesterday is great. A good rom com and although I have seen it in the cinema andI had to have it for my collection. Himesh Patel was great and I will certainly watch his progression. I am also a great fan of Lily James and she tackles each of her roles with great enthusiasm and I always enjoy her acting. The rest of the cast is great- it was also good to see a different side to Danny Boyle. But, thank you Richard Curtis and I look forward to your next project with great anticipation.
