Great Sharpener!
I've already sharpened dozens of knives with this and can say it works very well. As with any stone, you will need to maintain somewhat of an angle as you sharpen. However, the use of a finer grit helps keep any mistakes under control while still giving you more than enough material removal to get the job done in record time (assuming you are not trying to remake a blade, just sharpen). The holding pad also works very well. The working surface area is generous and keeps its bite despite severe use. Needless to say, this is not a method that you should venture into for fairly curved blades; you would need to be an artisan to get that right (I use ceramic rods). But for kitchen and traditional utility knives, this should do quite nicely!

Product works as described
Sharpening is a threshold skill for hand tool woodworkers and there are a myriad of methods. It has to be a continuous process of pausing to sharpen whenever it is required and that means it has to be quick and convenient. Diamond stones are much more convenient than waterstones for this purpose and can handle all of the modern tool steels. This diamond plate is a good, economical choice for honing. You will need a coarser stone or another method for reshaping bevels, taking out knicks, etc.

Really good sharpening plates
I use these very often to sharpen my woodworking planes, chisels and drawknives. Mine are worn now to the point of not cutting as fast, but they are still perfectly functional and show no signs of damage. The one critique I have of them is the double-sided design itself. Looking back, I'd rather not have to wipe and flip the plate in the midst of sharpening to get to the next grit. That being said, the fact that they are mounted with the tabs at the end at least gives you a good way to grip the plates when you need to move them.

Poor quality control
The surface on both sides has many particles that are of hugely varying size (take a look at the photo), enough to gouge and ruin an edge on a knife that wasn't even sharp (easy enough to fix with the other set I replaced this with). The 600 side was probably worse, but the 1200 side was essentially unusable, as the grit variation across the surface was so great that at the ends it would bind the blade, when near the center it would slide like a normal diamond sharpener. I returned this immediately, and bought the Ultra Sharp set (600/1200 in 3"x8") and it is a night and day difference in quality. Save yourself the headache and just buy the Ultra Sharp. As of this review (12/3/2023) they are about 20% less expensive, and also made in USA, although it is 2 individual stones rather than a 2 in 1 reversible.

cant wait for my next purchase
works great, its flat so you don't need a marble/glass slab. the no slip grip is surprisingly handy as well. If you are looking to flatten/lap a plane sole then spring for the coarse because it takes forever on the fine/600 grit. I knew this when I bought it but maybe my confirmation will help someone else make their decision

Poor quality control
Disappointing product. This item was purchased because of the poor reviews for DMT sharpeners. The Eze Lap arrived with staples in the packaging so it was suspect right off the bat. There are bad spots on at least one end of the 600 grit side. Why send out again a returned defective product? You could possibly get a good one, but why take the chance? Do yourself a favor and find something from Asia. For myself, I save some of these poor quality control items for demonstration purposes. This is one of those...

Great product
I carry this "stone" in my tool box to sharpen my chisels and planes. I prefer this over water or oil stones because it stays flat. I find the fine/Xfine a great combination. They bring my planes and chisels to a satisfactory edge. If I have time, or need a finer edge, a few strokes on my water stone will bring the tool to a razor edge.

Works BEAUTIFULLY
I love this stone. I had a small EZ-LAP diamond stone for my pocket knives, originally, and it worked so well that I looked for another to do my kitchen knives. It works VERY well, makes a clean sharp edge, and if it lasts as long as my small one it will serve me well for years.
