Thick but solid gi w/ comparison of 2 others
I just started bjj classes, so I ordered 3 different sanabul gis to decide which would fit me best as my first gi. This means I'm very inexperienced and can't compare them to other brands and qualities, but I wanted to offer the differences I noticed between them for others looking for their first gi. I'm a 5'3" female weighing about 130 lbs with some curves for reference. I've listed the 3 I ordered and notes under about each:1.) Sanabul Essentials V.2 Ultra Light Pre Shrunk BJJ Jiu Jitsu Gi (Blue, A0) See Special Sizing Guide-Lightest and thinnest feel of the material of the three-Largest wingspan in the arms, about 1.5 inches longer on each arm than the core competition style-Shorter pant length than the core competition style by about a half to 1 inch-Soft wrist and ankle holes (in the pictures this is the royal blue one)2.) Sanabul Core Competition Brazilian Jiu Jitsu BJJ Gi (See Special Sizing Guide) (Black/Blue, A0) **This One**-Thickest and heaviest feel of material of the three-Smaller wingspan than the v.2 ultra light-Longer pant length than the v.2 ultra light-Just inside the sleeves and ankles, there is a sewn-in strip of fabric that is very sharp and scratchy around the edges. I don't know if this would become softer after washes, but it was a major deal breaker for me since it was actually painful to walk around in these when they brushed against my feet and ankles (in the pictures this is the black one with electric blue accents)3.) Sanabul New Item Women's Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Gi (Black, W2)-Between the other two in material thickness and weight-Shortest wingspan by about half inch-Shortest pant length by about half inch-A bit higher waisted than the other two, which I liked since it hit at the small of my waist. This will help the pants from going anywhere while I'm rolling-Smooth and soft wrist and ankle holes (in the pictures, this is the black one with purple threading and accents)-Much more room in the pants around the butt and slimmer cut in the kimonoI haven't washed any of these and have only tried each on briefly, but I know that if any of these are too large, you can shrink them down with hot water in the wash and a warm tumble cycle in the drier. They all seem of about the same quality, and I don't imagine they would rip easily. The collar feels about the same stiffness on each.Overall, I would highly suggest girls get the women's style unless they have a very masculine build. The material strained a bit at the bottom of a squat for me in both of the male/unisex ones, but the women's style allowed a full and easy range of motion. There was also some less fabric bunching around the back and less wide shoulders in the women's. I didn't think it would be that noticeable of a difference between the unisex and female, but there is, so I'm glad I was able to figure out early on that I should only buy women's sized gis going forward. For guys, if you're really concerned about having longer pants or a heavier gi, I would suggest the competition core, but otherwise, because of the added sharp fabric around the sleeves and ankles and I imagine the extra trapped heat while wearing, I would advise to go for the v.2 ultra light. There may be some other slight differences, but these seemed the most noticeable to me.Also, note that none of them come with belts, so remember to purchase a belt separately. Happy rolling!

looks good just not for lean guys
Sharp looking gi. Only problem is if you are lean this style is big through waist/bottom. Bought this for an almost 5'9" guy weighing 128 hoping to get longer length bottoms. That didnt work out. size chart said a1 but thought id try a2 for extra length. ended up also ordering the a1 as a2 was super enormous on bottom. fyi the a1 was still too big on waist totally bunched up like a paper bag and pants and sleeves were looking too short....and i know everything i wash shrinks. if you are lean i recommend the sanbul highlights version. the a1 in that fit better still wish it was a little longer. still had to pull in a lot to tighten, but at least top didn't look like bunched up paper bag . so overall if you are a "thicker" person this may be right one for you.

Fits great after shrinking
I was just browsing the gi section when I came across this brand. I'd never heard of the brand before. I really liked the look of the black and purple gi so I picked one up.The look is fantastic- matches the belt haha! The sizing chart was a bit weird for me because the company said they cut their gi's larger than most. I'm 5'10 178lbs and I bought an A2. The price was right and the quality so far is wonderful.I used the company's shrinking method on the top twice and once on the pants. The top is still a touch long in the sleeves, but the rest fits great. There are only 2 very minor issues. The belt cord is getting frayed on the ends...I wish they were sealed. Other minor thing was there was still paper on the inside of the jacket around where the sewing seams are. It's all come off now, but it was weird in class because the stuff was everywhere on the mat!All in all, this is a super comfy gi and it's become one of my favorites so far.

pretty meh
I needed a gi for a competition and I really liked the sanabul essentials I have, so I figured I'd give this one a shot. I'm giving it 2 stars bc it is a gi, and it has held up pretty well over several months of heavy wear. That being said... this thing just refuses to break in. I've been using it a lot and washing/drying it pretty aggressively, but the sleeves in this thing leave my forearms all red and raw after practice. None of my other gi's have been like that. I'm going to try wearing it with a long sleeve rash guard, but that's pretty annoying. Also, the drawstring seems cheaper than the essentials gi. I'm not a huge fan of the flashy metallic colors either, but that was as advertised so I can't gripe too much about that.

Questionable upgrade from the Ultralight
I like my Sanabul gis. For the price they're great. This one is a small step up from the basic ultralight gi, and I'm undecided which one I like more. I would say, I definitely prefer the pants on this gi; the linen pants on the ultralights are my least favorite part of them. These ones feel thinner and lighter, but with ripstop also feel stronger. Just overall less like a wet blanket at the end of class. The kimono, however, is a bit odd. I don't know what weave this is, but it's easily the roughest gi I own. Even after dozens and dozens of times using and washing, it never softens. Honestly, I dont mind it too much while I'm rolling, and I like the overall construction and fit of the jacket otherwise. But I'd probably take the regular ultralight kimono over this one.Overall, this gi is IBJJF legal and has held up well for me, and I use it fairly often. I'd probably take it over the ultralight just for the pants.

5-9 tall - 165 pounds - A1 fits
I am 5-9 tall, 165 pounds. The A1 fits perfect. Top and bottom both fit perfect. The gi is a more fitted style with not a lot of extra material. This is a good thing for me because it is less grips for my opponent. It fits very similar to my War Tribe A2 gi. I have washed this gi a couple times on delicate cycle and hang dry. I'm sure if I put this in the dryer for even a minute it would shrink. So far it is holding up great and for the price it is a bargain. The only thing that is a little uncomfortable is the inside seams by the wrists and the ankles. Something with the stitching is a little scratchy. However, if you wear spats and long sleeve rash guard you will never notice.

Recomendable Oss

Perfect size, great look, responsive company.
I messaged Sanabul right here on Amazon asking what size I’d need. They responded, like, immediately.Their size suggestion was perfect. It’s the best fitted and best looking gi I own. Great price for the quality. I’ll buy from them again.

Excelente Gi
