I'm a skin care specialist and this is my go-to lotion for smooth skin
I've been using this for years. I often get keratosis pilaris which is a fancy way of saying ingrown hairs or bumpy skin. This contains lactic acid which is a chemical exfoliant derived from milk. In fact, the benefits attributed to bathing in milk are actually from the lactic acid content. Not only is lactic acid a chemical exfoliant (don't let the words "chemical" or "acid" scare you here. This product is buffered which means that as a consumer you can really do no wrong with this product) it is also a humectant. Humectants attract water and literally pull water from the air into your skin.Lactic acid is one of the most hydrating exfoliants out there. I've been using this for years and I will never stop because it keeps my skin so smooth and soft. It alleviates the itching associated with skin bumps too.I'd like to mention just a few things because I've recommended this product to many people and some people cannot tolerate the smell. Honestly it isn't a great smell. The lotion itself is not scented but it is buffered with ammonium. The lactic acid is actually in the form of ammonium lactate. So what does all that nonsense mean? Basically this has an ammonia smell to it. I know what you are thinking....gross right? First off, it really only lasts for about a half hour before it wears off, second the benefits are soooo worth it especially if you suffer from lots of skin bumps or dry skin that gets thick in places. This is basically like a fancy chemical peel from a spa but for your body and completely fool proof so you can apply it at home.I also want to mention that anytime you are using a chemical exfoliant it is completely necessary to protect your skin from the sun. It doesn't matter what skin type you have or if you burn or tan. This is non-negotiable, ignoring this and exposing your skin to the sun unprotected within a few weeks of using an acid like this will not only age your skin faster but also put you at risk for skin cancer. I wear sunscreen every day so this isn't a deal breaker for me but it might be for some.Lastly, if you have irritated or broken skin it is best not to apply this as it will burn and sting. I've gotten this into small cuts before and ouch! The benefits of this product are incredible: increased cell turnover, younger, firmer and smoother skin. The drawbacks are the smell (put it on at bedtime and then you won't have to worry about the smell and the lotion will do its magic overnight) and the need to protect your skin while using and for two weeks afterwards. Both of these drawbacks are worth it, the results are amazing(especially on feet!) and there are so many uses for this product it can literally be used everywhere. If you give it a try you will love the results, just prepare yourself for the smell and have some sunblock handy.

works great, kinda smells
I really do like this product. I have suffered from KP for many many years, and I just haven't found anything that worked, until now that is. I used to use a loofa with coconut oil, and that would leave my arms super red from scrubbing all the bumps off, and even then I was never fully clear. I got this Amlactin lotion in the mail 12 days ago and I have only used it once/day and even forgotten a couple of days. I am now 98% clear and the itch is gone, the bumps are almost fully gone! I am thrilled. My brother and I both have the same issue with KP on the backs of our upper arms, so I am going to give him the 2nd bottle and see if it works for him like it has worked so well for me. I am very happy I found this lotion. The only complaint I have is that it does smell pretty chemical-y. I am afraid to hold my 9 month old after I put this on my arms, I don't know if it will give her a reaction of some kind, so I just make sure I let it dry fully and then I throw a long sleeved shirt on if I plan on holding my baby. I usually put it on after I put her to bed so then by morning we are good to go. It's probably fine, but, I'd rather be safe until I know it won't harm her sensitive baby skin!

Great lotion! Works like a charm on rough and bumpy skin!
After going down the rabbit hole that is r/skincareaddiction on Reddit, I came across this as a product recommended by several SCAers. To be honest, I don't really have any dramatic issues on the skin of my body (more on that later!), but I figured I would give this a try, anyhow. I use a separate lactic acid daily on my face and love the results, so I figured it wouldn't hurt to try this for everything below my neck.I only apply this lotion to my skin as it's damp from the shower, so I can't speak to what application on dry skin is like. This lotion is slightly more liquidy than your standard pump lotion, so it goes on very easily. I've found that at first, this appears to leave a white cast, but this quickly fades as the lotion is absorbed. At first, I was using this on my arms and legs, but I found that I was suddenly getting razor burn when I'd never had this problem before. After stopping use on my legs, I've found this product to be a dream. While I had assumed I had "normal" skin, I realized that after regular use, my skin that had been slightly rough and bumpy (chicken skin, as my husband calls it!) is smooth and soft. The instructions on the bottle caution against using this on your face, so I have not used the product above my neck. I would absolutely recommend this to anyone experiencing dry skin, or issues with rough skin.

AmLactin has set a standard!
I'm very picky about what I use to moisturize my skin, because most products just sit on top of the skin without absorbing and effecting it long-term.My skin isn't extremely dry or anything, but I do have a lot of dark spots/scars from acne many years ago. Now while I can't speak for whether or not this lotion has helped to reduce the appearance of the dark spots, I can say I immediately noticed a difference in the way my skin felt after just one use. With continued use, my skin got softer, and softer. It was really a treat to witness. The scent of this lotion leaves much to be desired; it has a chemical fragrance to it. So if you're sensitive about that, you may want to stay away. I don't think it's strong enough to be turned off for me personally, but just keep it in mind. It can also be a bit sticky.I have never used a product that's felt this good on my skin even on the days I hadn't used it. So 'normal' lotions are out of the window for me. AmLactin is a staple!(Note: Works really nicely (and stretches out the product so it'll last longer, as well as reduces stickiness) when skin is damp after a shower or misting water over the skin! I also like layering this lotion - right after I apply it on damp skin, I apply a heavier product like body oil gel or shea butter over it. Feels great!)

Excellent price! Most vendors overcharge on products that are sold at the drugstore in the U.S.
I've loved this product for many years but I seldom buy it because of the crazy mark up. Thank you for making the product available at that price!

Bottle beak is bwoken :(
Bought the two bottle pack but the dispenser pump nozzle on one of them is broken. Seems it was packed this way since the broken piece is not in the packaging. Product itself seems good - no problem there. Can't be bothered to return it - I will just transfer the pump to the other bottle when it's finished.

Simply the best
This product is by far the best of any I have used for very dry skin (ichthyosis) and I have tried dozens including Lanate. The 12% ammonium lactate is an exfoliant and the other ingredients of the lotion are non greasy and nourishing. Unfortunately the cost in Australia is more than double the cost to buy it in a drugstore in the US.
