Not Impressed
Excellent materials but poor design for the price. You should be able to open the lid. You have to remove the entire cap to clean the chimney. This will put excess stress on mating materials (screws, flue, brick). I'm also not impressed with the tack welding. Only 5 tacks per side holding screen to lid and to base. Also, instead of 4 gussets, (1in each corner), there were only 2. I'm crossing my fingers that heavy winds don't blow it apart. Engineering needs examining.

Nice stainless steel USA made Chimney cap.
I live in central Pennsylvania, just west of the heart of "coal country", and heat my home with good old PA anthracite coal. Not the cleanest of fuels, but it sure works well and is inexpensive compared to other options. The downside to coal is the Sulphur content tends to corrode carbon steel rather quickly, so stainless steel is the best option for longevity. After looking locally, and not finding a size that would work for my 16.5" x 16.5" (outside measurements), I found this one on Amazon and figured I'd give a try. It arrived in just 3 days, with everything in good condition. I was also pleased to see it was made in Scranton, PA, so I was happy to have supported a local business in the end anyway!Pros - Well made...the stainless steel sheet metal used is sturdy enough to give me a piece of mind that it will last, but light enough to easily handle for installing. It also looks great on the house.Cons - The description says it will fit chimneys as small as mine, and as big as 19" square. It did, but just barely. I had to go to the local hardware store and get longer bolts to fasten it to the chimney. Not a big deal, but just something extra I had do. If your measurements are anywhere between 17" and 19", it will fit just fine. While I know nothing lasts forever, the stainless steel version (they make plain steel models as well) has a lifetime warranty for the initial purchaser, barring any natural disaster related failures. That at least gives a peace of mind the manufacturer is confident enough in the material and workmanship to provide that level of warranty.I would definitely buy this again.
