Finally a DeLorean DMC-12 that we can afford
Finally, I've got a DeLorean!I've loved DeLoreans since long before "Back to the Future." When the DMC-12 came out, we actually considered buying a new one, but the cost was too high, and rumors were that the stainless steel bodies would be horribly expensive to repair. (We settled for buying a Fox-body Mustang hatchback instead β same basic body style, but no stainless steel.)Finally I have a nice little DMC-12 in my car collection, at a price I can afford, and if it gets a dent, well, so what? The colors on this little car are bright and shiny, the toy rolls well, and it fits into my Matchbox/Hot Wheels car display case. Why only four stars? First, I would have preferred that the car be available in silver, not a dark/medium gray. Let's be honest, with very few exceptions DeLoreans are bright silver. And second, when I grew up most of the little toy cars had doors and hoods that opened. Today, they don't, I'm sure to save money. Still, when I compare the old cars and new cars in my collection, there's something special about the old ones.

grandson's pride and joy
I got this for my 13 year old grandson for Christmas because he is a major "Back to the Future" fan. He loved it. It upped his status with the other nerds, opps, I mean 13 year old fans he plays with.

Dosen't really look like a DeLorean. Not "Collector" quality.
So being a DeLorean fan i decided to pick this up to add to the collection. It looked pretty cool in the pictures, and I assumed it would look like the one on the package. Not so much. I remember past Hot Wheels looking like the cars they were modeled after. this one is far from it. First, I have never seen a DeLo with a racing stripe, which is on the photo and the model. Second, the grille on the model is not flat like an actual DeLo, nor is it ridged/slatted. It is slanted back and smooth. Third, there are no DMC badges on the model. It looks like there was supposed to be one by the door, but it is off center and smudged so it looks like a silver block. the black paint in this area is also chipped. And Fourth, the louvers on the back window look like a cheap afterthought. I really feel like they took a press from a previous model and added some stuff to make it look "DeLorean-ish". The bubble pack I received is different from the picture, mine had Spanish and French text so it was probably an import or foreign "leftover". I mean, it was only a couple bucks, and the shipping was free, so whatever. Its only gonna be an in-pack shelf model anyway. It might be worth looking around to find a higher quality model and paying a few bucks more. Or maybe getting a larger one as they usually have better detail and are higher quality. However, if you just want it as a toy, get it. I'm sure it'll be fine.

Silver Delorean from Hot Wheels
You can't go wrong with a Delorean. I suggest you get two: one to open and one to keep forever.
