Brought an Old Violin Back to Life!
The Scherl and Roth Rosin Remover is great! My Youngest son grew out of his 1/2 size violin and needed to move up. My sister had a 3/4 size violin she used back in the 1970's to the early 80's. She was going to junk it but offered it to my son. I though, "Why not? It could save me some money." Well, she handed me her old E.R. Pfretzschner distributed by the Roth Shop in Cleveland, Ohio. The date inside said "1970". The case was a loss, the bow was un-adjustably frozen, and there was years of rosin build-up on the body, fingerboard, tailpiece, and chin rest. I felt that my sister was right about junking this instrument. But I read several reviews and blogs about this make of violin made during the 50's to the 80's were not collectors' items but they are very good quality violins and one would spend $500 to $800 to get that same quality from a new instrument. So, I invested on a new bow, new case, new strings(obviously), and most of all, looked for a way to get rid of this rosin build-up. I chose Scherl and Roth brand of rosin remover because of its connection to the same shop which distributed this old violin. After receiving the remover, I was giving it much hope that it would remove years of build-up that is 30 years old. The violin's body felt like sandpaper with all that stuff on it. I followed the directions, starting on a small area to test. I had to give it a little 'elbow grease', but after a few mintues and a wipe and buff from the wiping cloth, I felt a smooth, shiny surface without a mar on the finish. I then went 'hog-wild' on the rest of the instrument. More 'elbow grease' and, though there were some stubborn areas on the fingerboard and on the body near it, it succumbed to the rosin remover. What I had was a potential piece of firewood, is now a beautiful violin, and it sounds just as beautiful. I had to make my 9-year-old swear to treat it with great respect and care. My sister probably will not recognize it now. Just for $6.99 item, it helped me save that money I hoped to save. Great stuff!

Seems it works
I scratched it on my fingerboard where's near to the bowing place and it seems to reduced a lot of black things from the fingerboard. And it killed all the rasins on the strings too. But it is creamy, not very easy to get it out of the little bottle. And don't put the cream on the fiber, do that on the sponge. The fiber will get really dirty.
