Bravo!
An excellent, primarily pictorial, overview of Assyrians in Chicago. Truly enjoyable. I strongly encourage other Assyrians to use their God-given gifts to preserve our history and help secure our future. I look forward to more of Mr. Shoumanov's work.Your sister in Christ Jesus.

An Important First Step
This is an important study of the responses of Assyrian immigrants and their children to their newfound land of freedom and its lure for assimilation. The vibrant Assyrian community of Chicago has maintained its strong cultural identity, as the author asserts through a superb pictorial essay, by slowly shedding the social distinctions brought from homeland. While the author ignores the tumulus years following the great exodus of 1980's due to the Iran-Iraq War & the Islamic Revolution in Iran, his study of the cultural activities between 1930's and 1960's would be interesting to most readers - particularly those with ties to Chicago.Since the politics of the "Chicagoland" continue to affect Assyrian-American politics in general, Mr. Shoumanov's book is an important first step in the contextualization of the Assyrian experience in America.

New Title of a Local History
This book is a huge work of Assyrian History of Chicago. When I took Assyrians in Chicago at the Borders this was my textbook. I learned more with this book than in five years of attendance in many Assyrian conferences, lectures, conventions.Naturally, the book is very well illustrated. However, it is also well written. This book is a telling text with respect to how Assyrian History has changed, been molded, and publicly demonstrated from its beginnings to the present day. It is well worth the sticker price if for no other reason than it contains some of the interesting information of a local history of the Assyrians ever produced.I really recommend this book, not only to Assyrians or people with majors in this field, this is a book that almost everybody should have in order to understand the way humans have projected themselves through history.

Assyrians in Chicago
If ever there was a book that was not worth the money it cost "Assyrians in Chicago" is that book! The style is so hopeless. Warning: do not read this book while operating heavy machinery! You may hurt yourself! This books is so borring, that it may make you depressed. Save yourself the money and donate it to some poor Assyrian, in stead of buying this worthless collection of meaningless papers. God help you Mr. Vasli Shoumanov. You really should consider finding another job, besides being an author. How about being a fake Assyrian?
