Gift Idea
Got this for my wife a couple of years ago. It's a great book. The recipes are good, it's easy to follow, and the book is well illustrated. Okay, here is what you do for the chef in the family (this is what I did for my wife). You get a nice wok and fill it up with all of the spices and sauces that are in the recipes in this book. Toss in the book, get a clear gift basket bag, tie with a bow, and voila, you have a nifty gift basket. For minimal effort, I have reaped many tasty rewards.

I am a stir fry fanatic and have been making Chinese food for close to 20 years now. I have developed my own recipes over the years through trial and error and discovering personal preference, but am always on the lookout for new ideas and techniques. The recipes in this book are exactly what I would expect for quality stir fry dishes, and some are even quite close to the recipes I have developed over the years. On top of that she shares many great tips that it would take a long time to discover on your own (such as how to properly treat shrimp before stir frying). Even with my stir frying experience I still found this book to be quite useful, and for someone just getting starting I would dare say this is THE book to get you started on your journey.

Not bad at all
Not bad at all!! Her techniques (towards the beginning of the book) and recipes were great! Out of the several cookbooks I own, this is one of the best. My favorite recipe, Kung Pao chicken, tastes very similar (and perhaps better) than the one I get from restaurants. She's the real deal. Her recipes are not watered down like in most other cook books. Her book is one of the few that's actually worth getting if you love Chinese food. Follow all her tips, including how to tenderize meat. It's worth the extra steps. My husband and I loved the recipes--I've prepared several from this book. All were good. Thank you for writing a well thought out book!! Lots of ingredients but yummy results!! This foodie appreciates it! I love Chinese food even though I'm not Chinese. ;)

Low Love this book and use it often!
We love Chinese food, because it’s so healthy and I wanted to learn to make some of our favorites. This cookbook helped me understand how to cut and tenderize meats the proper way for Chinese dishes. Also the different noodle products, how to make them fresh and what dishes and sauces to use with them. There are many recipes included from appetizers like soups, pot stickers, egg and spring rolls to main dishes using poultry, beef, fish and pork and rice dishes, deserts are also included. I am so pleased with this purchase.

It has many appetizing pictures, and most of the recipes are fairly easy. There are descriptions of each dish with an appealing flavor profile and usually some degree of history or interesting details in case the recipe is an unfamiliar one, though most of your restaurant favorites are in here. It does also have a few "unusual" dishes, such as squid or duck not as common on a Westernized Chinese menu, and most of the recipes can be adapted around other primary meats or even tofu, though for tofu you should probably be aware of different cooking times. However, if you have access to more uncommon meats, such as squid, duck, etc., the dishes' sauces and seasonings will substitute well.If there's a downside, the worst thing would be some of the dishes (Hunan Beef) came out a little salty for my taste as written, and I don't find fast-food Chinese "salty," so that may be saying something. The rest of my family loves the dishes I think are too salty, however. The best thing the cook in the family liked about this book was the beginning section that details many of the ingredients unique to Chinese cooking, with flavor profiles and pictures. It allows her to experiment more with Chinese flavors when she knows what adds what and what to look for.Ultimately I'd say it's a great book for people who don't cook much, or people who are great cooks but not familiar with Chinese cooking who want to learn the tastes and techniques to add to their repertoire. Even if you know how to stir-fry, the primary method (though not the only method; there's a soup and dessert section), it's also great for learning the flavor mixes that make Chinese cooking unique, and tips and tricks for Chinese style springy shrimp and such.

Worth its weight in gold
A few things make this an outstanding cookbook. The first is the quality of the book. Its a generous sized, hardcover cookbook; the pages are made of high quality paper; it contains large full color pictures; the contents are very organized and easy to read and understand. Bottom line, its really a nice looking cookbook. The second are the intro and tips at the beginning of the book which were invaluable for me. This book takes the large array of chinese sauces, veggies, spices, and ingredients and breaks down the most common ones and provides clear pictures and explanations of each. As long as you have access to a decent asian grocery store, you should be able to obtain most if not all of the ingredients. You literally will be able to find the exact same brands in the book at the asian grocery store. The gem for me were the tips around stir frying and preparation of meats, poultry, etc. What I liked were that the tips and explanations were not overly wordy or complex. They were short, concise nuggets of info that you can apply immediately to almost any dish. The third great thing about this cookbook are that the recipes are easy to understand and prepare. I have a few chinese recipes from my mom and they are pretty consistent with whats in this cookbook. Some people may be concerned about whether these are "authentic" chinese recipes and I would say that you will find some of these dishes in alot of chinese family dinner tables here in America. I think true authentic would be outside of the adventure zone for most American palates but I'll let others debate what is true authentic vs not authentic. All I know is I really like this cookbook and have gotten some great results from it. It should be especially great for those that want to be introduced to chinese cooking and equally great for those beginners who are looking to expand their chinese cooking repetoire.

Best Chinese cookbook
I have bought loads of Chinese cookery books and none have given the information on treating the produce in this way. I have now had time to recreate a good few of the recipes and have found them delicious much better than your normal takeaway. Would recommend this as a present for any food lover.

A nice little book with some useful tips
I've followed the Rasamalaysia blog a long time and love the receipes out of it so I bought this book without thinking twice. There's some good tips on basic preparation of meats, the tools you should use and other bits and pieces at the start. There's a nice mix of receipes and pictures and most of them are quick to make and use a similar receipe list so you could make multiple receipes in a singe go.I've cooked 4 receipes so far and honestly they've been a bit on the bland side. I'm going to keep trying to make some more dishes so hopefully they'll be a bit better but they all do seem very healthy which could be a factor in the bland taste of some receipes.

Great for trying something new
The book has a great variety of foods and the instructions are very easy to follow. My only issue is that it doesn't give you many alternative ingredients if you don't have them in your store. Being from rural Ireland some of the sauses and the odd ingredient are hard to find. But apart from that it's great if you want to try a new style of cooking at home.

I purchased this book in the hope that it would demonstrate Chinese Cookery in a form I could understand - it doesn't disappoint. In fact it is about the best I have come across to date.Well recommended if you are into Chinese cookery.

Easy Recipes
Some clever tips in here on how to prepare food. Very easy to follow and the results are tasty! This book is worth it for the meat and veg prep tips alone. I found it inspiring many thanks to author Bee Yinn Low.

Easy Chinese Recipes
I have had this book for a while now, but have never taken the time to say how much I have enjoyed Easy Chinese Recipes by Bee Yinn Low. It isn't a big book with a plethora of recipes requiring an assortment of hard to find ingredients. The book has under a dozen recipes in each of the sections. The poultry section has 8 recipes. One of those recipes is for Black Bean Sauce Chicken.I have tried this recipe, and gone back to this recipe, time and time again. I love black bean,I have bought many Asian cookbooks just for the recipes that include black bean.Yes, there are other great recipes for this dish, but this is the one that gives me the taste and flavor that I have been looking for. The other recipes, the ones that I have tried, are nice. The shrimp with egg has gotten very popular around my home as well. You have nine chapters not including the part about the `Basics' which is fairly standard in Asian cookbooks, like how to steam rice, etc. There is a chapter on DimSum and other appetizers, pork and beef and others as well. You also have your standard tips and techniques, tools and utensils. The book has plenty of pictures and glossy pages. I also like how the recipes are simple, just like the title claims, even with the chopping.

good
Have decided to order after our family trip to Malaysia & Singapore. We loved their food so much that after returning back from the trip, I've started to search for authentic Chinese/ Malay cuisine book to recreate those dishes. This book helped me a lot. It does have real Malay peninsula flavour. Definitely recommended.

Invaluable guide to quality Chinese cuisine
Recipe books can vary so much. I've had many recipe books over the years with Chinese recipes but none have captured me and indeed the essence of Chinese cuisine like this one. I've been following the author Bee's blog (rasamalaysia dot com) for a few years now and have been thoroughly pleased with every recipe I have tried from there. The trend continues with this excellent book. Her approach to writing is so accessible giving the history of a recipe from her perspective, whether it be mum's home cooking or secrets learnt from the local restaurateur, followed by easy instructions, beautiful photography and background information on the more detailed ingredients and techniques needed. This all makes for a very satisfying experience for me as not only can I present a beautiful dish to my family and friends but I have something to say about it other than "it's from a book".The book follows on from the blog offering many new recipes unique to the book covering fun things from bubble tea to every day breakfast items like green onion pancakes (or an appetiser for more Western folk!) to exotic dishes like Fish Fragrant Aubergine (''''). Every recipe is in true Chinese style with delicately balanced flavours and textures nothing like the gloopy mess we often get from takeaways and restaurants in the UK. But, the book is not lacking familiar items like sesame prawn toast or BBQ ribs or sweet and sour pork; indeed these and other classic options like them are all included in the book with superior quality recipes. The acid test with cooking authentic Chinese food is always 'do Chinese people like it'? Having lived at an international school community for three years surrounded by many Chinese, Taiwanese, Malaysian etc. I have had the opportunity to cook for many of them. And, of all the recipes I've tried on them, Bee's recipes have always been their favourite. Finally a mention for all the excellent and illustrated background information in this book, not found on the website, which teaches about all the staples of cuisine like soy sauce, rice wine etc. Photos of what they look like so you can find them in your local Chinese supermarket. Techniques for those little details like 'how to make king prawns soft and bouncy' and how to make meat super soft just like you'd find in a £30/head restaurant.I love this book, and the way it has equipped me to explore the fascinating world of Chinese cuisine and bless many of my friends Eastern and Western alike with wonderful welcoming food. Buy it today, you won't be disappointed!

A great recipe book
I bought this book because I've gotten tired of my cooking and needed new ideas which aren't too complicated. I also wanted recipes that aren't too time consuming for my family's weekday dinners. This book has what I need. All recipes have pictures which I think all recipe books should have. I know some Chinese cooking as I grew up in a Chinese-Filipino household but sometimes I find myself wondering if I'm using the right ingredient for a particular dish or if I'm missing something. This book shows you the basics and the ingredients are so easy to find. I love her secret to making chicken achieve a silky texture. It really works.I hope she'll come up with another recipe book soon!

I feel like a trophy husband.
Amazing cook book. Tastes like home haha. I love how she recommends exact brands and products and teaches essentials like how to tenderize/cut/prepare before cooking. I really recommend this. The book itself is also pretty high quality, thick pages, colorful pictures. Wonderful.
