A tale of two bobbers.... details make the difference.
I almost didn't buy these. But Carlisle came through. I have used this style of bobber (without the big red top) for decades, mostly because of it's visibility. I'm not sure where I got the one on the left, possibly picked off brush near a public access. I dug it out of the tackle box the other night when the sun was low and glinting off the chop and I kept losing sight of my bobber. It was difficult to get on the line as the spring was too stout for cold, wet, slimy fingers, but I managed. Great, I could see what was going on. But there was a problem. It slipped. And the more I adjusted it, the more it slipped. I blamed the new fangled plastic stick, in the old days the stick was wood and swelled a bit to tighten things up. But the real problem was that the spring was unwinding from the effort required to depress it. But the big red top was great for visibility especially on the kayak where you are just above the water. So, I wanted to find replacements. Nobody local carried these. On to Amazon. Eureka, I found it. The only problem was they wanted to sell them in bulk. I tried one vendor which advertised a box of 24 for $10 shipped. No, 1 bobber for $10 arrived. Not acceptable. So, I empted for this offer, even though a dozen is a lifetime supply. The selling point was that Carlisle apparently fixed the spring problem with a lighter spring with 3 tight turns at the top which seems to have fixed the slipping and unwinding problem. See the picture. That tiny detail makes me a happy fixherman and I recommend them highly for when squinting at a bobber for hours gets to be a problem. Besides, these guys deserved a real review. If I see you on the lake, maybe I'll gift you a spare bobber.
