Just what I needed for my 55lb motorguide on the kayak.

First and foremost, when these breakers go bad on trolling motors, they wreak havoc. Your trolling motor will randomly shut off for no reason, you'll go nuts. Always suspect the breaker first, presuming your wiring is proper (at least 8 gauge) and plugs are firmly attached, including battery terminals. I ran into this problem with an older Bussmann 60A breaker that was in-line on my positive trolling motor wire...it would shut the motor off after a few minutes of usage when the prop was in the higher speed range (over 7-8). Based on hours of troubleshooting, it was determined the Bussmann breaker was killing power and resetting itself after 4-5 minutes. No way my 12V Minn Kota Power Drive v2 was pulling over 60A of current, not even running at full power. The Minn Kota breaker resolved the problem...doesn't cut my motor off after 10 minutes of usage. Hopefully it holds up, time will tell.

A lot of people may try to convince you that this is not required. They are correct, however maybe you should consider this. Is a seat belt necessary? If you never crash, no it is not. That does not mean you shouldn't have one. It is an extra precaution, and will never be a bad decision to install one of these.As for the product, it works well, and a manual reset means it will not turn back on while you are cleaning your prop unexpectedly. A 55# thrust Traxxis motor is also the highest AMP draw out of any of the Minn Kota's (Yes, even higher than the 24V motors as they draw less amps but more volts) so a 60 amp circuit breaker is necessary. Just remember to place this is a dry location, clean the post regularly, and do NOT cheap out on your wiring (otherwise what is the point) and this will last a very long time.Remember, it's like a seat belt. You hope you will never have to use it, but you will be thankful you had it in the event of an accident. There is more at risk here than just your electric motor, as a short anywhere could lead to catastrophic failure.

Actually, this is a Minn Kota unit, not Humminbird. I just bought a new Minn Kota Terrova trolling motor and everything I read said you should have 60A protection of some sort. After researching, this was the best way to go (instead of a fuse box). The unit shipped very quickly and installed easily. I bought a 4 gauge battery cable to go from my battery to this breaker and mounted it next to the battery. I use 6 gauge for the rest of the wiring to the trolling motor. The only small issue is that cable posts don't give a lot of room to put a large ring connector on it. The battery cable I bought did just fit, but it is tight. The whole unit is much smaller than I thought it was going to be (not bad, I just thought it was bigger). I have not had it trip yet, which is good, but reseting looked easy with a little small lever in the middle of the unit. I feel good about it protecting my $1300 trolling motor.

I haven't put the boat in the water yet, so no idea about this thing's performance. It was what the motor instructions called for and the price was good.

This is a Minn kota unit. Not a knock off. So it is made well and of cast aluminum. Not cheap plastic. Would recommend. !
