Q: I just received this umbrella. It appears fairly fragile to me. Would this umbrella survive a two-week hike in rather heavy winds?

It is a little fragile and some of feedback I saw was that it did not do great if really windy, I used mine three times in heavy rain, some wind, and it performed well, but never heavy wind. I was glad to have it though when needed And it tucked nicely into my backpack!

Q: Is this the one with the carbon shaft?

No. The Silver Shadow Mini does not have a carbon fiber shaft. We do sell our Silver Shadow Carbon on Amazon and a quick search there will get you right to it.
