The Alto Flute Practice Book

This wasn't really what I was expecting but was if that makes sense...it was lacking I guess. At the beginning, there are some general comments that are helpful, but there is a lot left out; I did some research after buying this book and was given more fuller descriptions about how you want your embouchure for example. I felt there could have been some more basic practice guides running through pieces with 6 flats, double flat accidentals, and 32nd notes...really? you can learn all that hard theory stuff on the basic concert c flute. When you are just starting the alto, learning how to get good tone move through octaves I found difficult so some pieces that walked you through that starting basic and simple and gradually moving up into harder and harder pieces. I felt I was paying more attention to all the accidentals and rhythms and not learning the basics of this instrument, but some of the practice pieces had their value, and I will say it forces you to use air which is a challenge from going from concert c flute to an alto. Also personal thing....the font is small. I shouldn't have to strain. It is not normal music size. I may be a little picky, but there is very little out there for the alto flute, so I had high hopes.

I love Trevor so I was disappointed that I didn't get much out of the book. A few paragraphs on picking an alto don't warrant a book. Since it's titled a "Practice Book" I thought at the very least there would be some etudes. Alas, there are none. The book contains plenty of excerpts, but I was hoping for more traditional etude-style work. Since the alto is different enough from a concert flute to warrant a separate practice book, it should also have unique etudes to help a flutist get comfortable with the differences of the alto vs other flutes.The moral of the story here is that if you're decent a concert flute player who has just purchased an alto, and you want to get used to the new instrument, play harmonics & scales to figure out the various pitch issues. Play some simple flute etudes in an appropriate range to get comfortable with differences in embouchure placement. And you don't really need this book.

After using some of Trevor Wye's other flute books, I expected this book would have daily exercises for alto flute. It doesn't. It's really a collection 0f orchestral music selections that feature the alto flute. It's not bad--certainly a good resource if you are looking for these pieces--but not what I was hoping for. And for what it is, it would be much improved by the addition of a play-along CD.

Hard to find these resources for alto flutes, and this one provides the basics needed to work on basic techniques.

I'm a fan of Trevor Wye, all of his books are well-thought-out and really very accessible to any player from beginner to pro. This book is no different, but like his "Complete Daily Exercises for the Flute" book, the manuscript is not easy on the eyes at all. The content is marvelous, the delivery is crisp and clean but VERY small and I'm frustrated with the eye strain I've experienced while using it. The book could be a few pages longer with larger print, and I'd gladly pay more for it in that format. Otherwise, a brilliant book. I can't say enough good things about Trevor Wye.

アルトに特化した若干のコツとオーケストラ曲から抜粋した練習曲が掲載されている。アルトは結構指を広げないといけないので練習曲も中々鍛えられる。トレバーワイの教本はどれも他のワイ教本を参照、推奨しており、全部買わされてしまう気がする。

Das Practice Book kam gut und schnell an- am Verkäufer liegt es nicht. Aber es ist kein wirkliches Übungsbucht für Altflöte, lediglich eine Materialsammlung von schwierigen Partituren für Altquerflöte- der Name ist daher irreführend. Für sehr fortgeschrittene Altquerflötenspieler mag es einige nützliche Hinweise enthalten. Ich spiele seit vielen Jahren Querflöte und habe nun für meine Kammermusikensembles eine Altflöte dazu gekauft, auf der ich mich relativ schnell eingespielt habe. Was ich jetzt gebraucht hätte wären mehr und einfachere Übungsbeispiele zum gemeinsamen Musizieren in kleinem Kreis, nicht jedoch zu anspruchsvolle Beispiele aus der Orchestermusik, die ich nie spielen werde.

An interesting book.
