This book has a wide variety of sample quilts shown. The blocks used are primarily traditional, but the samples range from true antiques to newly made traditional style to very contemporary. Basic instructions are also given on piecing a quilt. Each quilt is rated based on difficulty.One thing I especially like about it is that it has smaller (less chunky) blocks than most books qwritten for using jelly rolls or fat quarters or what have you. On the other hand, some traditional block pattern books don't give instructions for rotary cutting. This book is a nice combination.I also feel that the variety of quilt styles pictured as examples has helped me to consider using fabrics I might not have or to position colors or patterns differently. They're not all my style, but there are quite a few I plan to make. Even where the example isn't my style, I may use the blocks with different types of fabrics or colors.

Shows a lot of quilts & how to cut them out using a rotary cutter.

I use this book a lot for finding patterns and as a cutting and sewing reference. There are also lots of ideas given for quilting designs. It's a great book to have in my quilting library for traditional patterns.My only complaint is that the photos of quilts are really faded out. Maybe it's just my copy.

Had this book before...sold it and instantly regretted it. I was always a bit intimidated by the patterns that called for triangles and anything but a square as I am just learning and teaching myself to quilt...but with the help of wonderful markers, triangles on a roll and this book to quide me through it all....I am into my second quilt and won't ever sell this book again!!! and I'm not so afraid of experimenting with my blocks now. Good book for us newbies to quilting.

I was a bit disappointed in this book. After the first 20 pages the quilts just merged into one another - the same kinds of colours (rather boring) and fabrics and most of them are stars or use other triangle pieces. Nothing that really 'grabbed' me and said 'Wow, this is a great looking quilt'! The instructions can be helpful for other projects, so it was not a total waste. I like my quilts colourful and to make a statement, not mousy and drab. Sorry, hope it doesn't put someone off buying it, but that is how I feel.

This is a great book for all quilters, even beginners. Each of the 101 quilts shown includes full buying, cutting, and assembly instructions. Blocks are shown in gray-scale, which helps me as I choose my own colors and fabrics, and each also includes one actually made as an example. The last section that covers quilting suggestions is also extremely useful, it shows how much of the art lies in this step and how the quilting pattern can complement the piecing design. This should be one of the first quilting books on any quilter's shelf.

Great collection of traditional quilts and stories to go with them. Modern methods of construction can make construction quicker. This book contains many if not all of the quilts in the 40 Fast and Fabulous quilt book by the same publisher. Lots of good ideas.

If you like rotary cutting then this book is for you. It is very good value for money as there really are a mammoth amount of quilts to choose from. Having been a quilter for a very long time I found some amazing designs and was then surprised to see how easy they were, once you looked at the illustrations, so I've learnt some things from it already. I'm not sure I'll make a lot of the full quilts from it but will certainly use plenty of the designs in smaller projects.
