Luxurious Surroundings And Historical Drama - The Common Folk Are Virtually Invisible - A Fascinating Look At History!
The story has been reviewed in detail by others, so I'll approach my review a different way.I had just finished watching a series about ordinary and poor people during this time period and thought it would be interesting to see life from the viewpoint of other end of society, since my own ancestry includes both. The poor people were apparently constantly aware of what the wealthy and privileged were doing. In this presentation we find that poor people almost don't even exist at all to the aristocrats. They are neither noticed nor cared about. They are invisible. This is about the time most of my ancestral lines came to America and I have always wanted to know the stories behind each one and why the chose to leave there and start over again here. I'm not really any closer to the answer, but it is easier to understand some of their problems and imagine how they considered their options and made decisions. We get to visualize what their life was like. We're in their private conversations learning about their secrets and what interests them. I hadn't really considered just how many marriages were arranged during this period and just how important those choices were to the future of a family. The relationship with Ireland is so much easier to understand after viewing this series. Finally, the clothes and settings are extraordinarily beautiful!

Artful period piece, subtly infused with history and full of restrained drama.
I really enjoy this show. It is hard to find on any streaming services without paying for an additional subscription and so when I saw this was available to purchase at a reasonable price, I bought another one just in case something happens to the original copy. Great show for anyone who appreciates historical drama or period dramas related to UC lives.

True Story of 18th Century Upper Class England
This true saga of an upper class English family is particularly interesting in its' content because it shows four beautiful sisters from early youth to old age, their joys and sorrows, each completely different in their attitudes and stories, yet relating to each other in many ways. The film clearly shows the effects of "class" distinction in 18th century England, where one could not always marry for love, but instead were forced to marry for position and wealth. Each sister handles this dilemma differently, often going against the ideas and traditions of that time. The backgrounds, grand homes, and scenery are especially beautiful in this BBC production. I recommend this three DVD set highly to anyone who is interested in 18th Century English history and who appreciates a true story, not a fictitious one.

Brilliant! Brilliant! Brilliant!
Another one of my very best top films. These sisters were just brilliant through out this film. The costumes were just awesome, the men they chose where very handsome, and the locations throughout the film were great. Very attractive women I must say. These are the things I look for when I chose to purchase these films. Again, there were some of my favorite actors and actress where I have seen played in other films which made this video superb. I do strongly recommend this wonderful masterpiece by masterpiece theater. You will enjoy it to the very end.

BEHIND THE CLOSED DOORS OF THE RICH AND INFLUENTIAL
It is always so very amusing, interesting, entertaining and fun to peek, behind the closed doors, at the lives of the rich, famous and socially well-connected. In this opulently produced, wonderfully directed and acted 3 DVD set (consisting of two episodes each and running about 98 minutes each) of a BBC Masterpiece Theater production, we certainly get a really good look at the privileged lives of England's Lennox, family from the 1700s to 1800s. This mini-series is mainly about the l five (5) very independent, pampered and well read Lennox sisters and about their lives, loves, successes, failures etc., as written by Stella Tillyard and as seen through the eyes of one sister Emily Lennox marvelously, in this presentation, narrated by Sian Phillips (as Emily Lennox, in her dodge.) This family was very well connected being related to royalty and having the advantages that goes with those "good connections". However, having "good connections" does not always necessarily make one immune from all of life's "nastiness". So it was with the Lennox family; they had their share of rebelliousness, indiscretions, scandals, deaths, lusts, heartaches, betrayals, political and personal intrigues, etc. that are wonderfully shown and dramatized in this mini-series Of course, all of the aforesaid tribulations make for a fascinating true story especially as presented in this production. No, I have not read Tillyard's book; therefore, I won't do the comparison thing. All that I can say is that this mini-series is splendid and that it kept this viewer very well entertained. The sets and recreation of the era(s) are simply marvelous--BBC is really so very good at doing these so-called "costume epics". This presentation certainly maintains their lofty standards! "The Aristocrats" is indeed so marvelously rich in its details as is exhibited in the production ranging from the costumes, wigs, carriages to the lavish sets. To be rather cliché: It was almost as if I were there! As expected, the acting is outstanding too.

For those who like History and Nobility
This is an old TV series and I watched it when I was younger. I found it again and it was interesting to see it now that I am older. I hope it was available in BlueRay format. The quality of this dvd was impeccable and the story is quite appealing, particularly for those of you who like to know what happened with Aristocrats a hundred years or so ago.

Aristocrats
Even though this presentation is in the form of a mini-series, it is still a masterful account of the lives of the wealthy and well appointed people of this era. I am watching it for the second time and have bought another as a gift for my daughter who, along with me, call ourselves true anglophiles.

A recommander. Chris Noël

Great dvd
Would definitely recommend to people interested in 18th century history. The dvd explains the life of the four Lennox sisters, although it mainly focuses on Emily and Sarah. I would advise people to buy the book as they talk about the four sisters in great detail. What is even better is Emily's house, Carton House, is now a hotel so you can stay there, and Louisa's house, Castletown House, is now a tourist attraction. Both are located in Co Kildare, Ireland. After reading the book or watching the dvd it is a nice idea to visit where these great ladies lived.
