Josh and Danny Phillips once again find themselves in big t-r-o-u-b-l-e at summer camp ...
Danny and Josh Phillips, a pair of eight-year-old twins, couldn’t be more different. Now just how could one love creepy crawly critters while they grossed out the other one? Josh, the “bug nerd,” would soon find a similar-minded friend at the Outdoor Action Camp. Everyone loved Charlie Isobel Wexford in spite of the fact that she was the “most punished kid” around the camp. Charlie was just plain old fun and she loved anything bugs and newts and toads. The only thing no one liked was camp counselor Steve, otherwise known as Drill Sergeant.Petty Potts, a “mad genius scientist,” who ran experiments underground in her garden, suddenly turned up at camp. Ugh! Petty had used her S.W.I.T.C.H., the Serum Which Instigates Total Hijack, to turn the twins into “spiders, flies, grasshopper, ants, daddy longlegs, and even diving beetles.” Petty was nothing but trouble and with her as a camp counselor there would be a lot more of it. Waaaaah! Mad scientists weren’t exactly camp counselor material, but she’d probably be better than Drill Sergeant for sure!Drill Sergeant had confiscated all their gadgets ‘n video games and put them in the confiscation cupboard, but Charlie outsmarted him and snagged the key when he was sleeping. No way he would discover them playing in the middle of the night! When they went to return the games, Charlie dropped the key in the water. “We’re done for,” exclaimed Josh. “Drill Sergeant could wake up at any minute!” They were doomed unless Petty could turn them into frogs so they could find that lost key. It seemed like a great idea until it looked like they just might end up as a “heron’s breakfast!”Josh and Danny Phillips once again find themselves in big t-r-o-u-b-l-e at summer camp. One nice addition is bug-loving camper, mischievous Charlie. When mad scientist Petty Potts shows up, readers will feel the excitement and know the plot will heat up big time. The humor will certainly draw in the reluctant reader in this short chapter book. Instead of creepy crawly bugs, it looks like they will now be turning into amphibians in the series with Petty’s new super-duper Amphiswitch. This fun, funky, fast read is sure to lure in readers who love a bit of wacky sci-fi (and a few little frogs) in their reading. In the back of the book are additional recommended book and website resources (real ones) to explore.S.W.I.T.C.H. Good for ASD children
My son has ASD and these are the only fiction books I can get him to read at all. According to him these are stories that may actually happen in real life!
