Easy to follow, easy to look things up
This book will look familiar to those enrolled in the edX Wellesley Italian courses, as it's a cliff-notes summary of the course content. It's nice having everything in one place and it's a helpful supplement to all three courses. This book is a reference guide; it isn't a textbook. That's a feature for me; textbooks have a lot of other material such as problem sets, reading exercises, and sidebar material that clutter the book and make it difficult to look up something. This book is quick for looking things up, and the explanations are easy to follow. Also, you don't need to be enrolled in the edX classes in order to use the book. It's just a basic description of the Italian language that could be useful for any student. It would be especially useful for someone trying to learn Italian at home or through an app like Duolingo which is weak on explanations.I've been looking for a book like this for a while and I'm really happy with my purchase.

Great book on its own or with the class
I bought this book mostly to use on its own but also in case I ended up taking the class. Initially, I was a little disappointed with the quality since it definitely feels a little more like an in-house college bound workbook. That said, while I wasn't blown away by the design or anything, the content is perfect. This book would take someone through all of the EdX Italian classes and makes a fantastic reference. I bought another course box set through Amazon that I really enjoy but I've come across a number of grammar points that I've needed a little more help with or a different explanation to make sense of. This book has been great for that.

The Perfect Guide To Italian Grammar
For context, I've previously taken two semesters of Italian in a university setting. So, before buying the book I had been exposed to 90% of Italian grammar. It is not just a reference guide-the author does a really great job of relating concepts to English and explaining linguistic terms. I'm currently using Duolingo to finish learning Italian and am using this book as a reference for grammar while I go through Duolingo. It is a great reference and provides lots of examples for each concept. The chapters are laid out in a way that makes sense and just so happens to progress along with the Duolingo layout very nicely. I highly recommend this book to anyone trying to learn the language. Thank you Daniela Bartalesi-Graf!

Seems to be a well-conceived and executed grammar text
To cut to the quick here: it's a clear, well organized text. I enjoy trying to learn something from it.

Love it!
This is the clearest explanation of Italian grammar. I use it as an adjunct to my Italian language classes -- it is so much more useful for grammar than my in-class text.

Good news: all the Italian grammar you need. Bad news: none of the exercises you also need to master all that grammar
We are big fans of the EdX Italian language courses and of Prof Bartalesi and her team at Wellesley College. We were delighted to be able to purchase the grammar rubrics embedded in these courses. That's the good news. The bad news: where are the exercises? The exercises in the EdX Italian courses developed at Wellesley were challenging and illuminating, worthy of completing more than once. However, doing so in the online format is a challenge. For still-active online courses, students cannot complete again exercises that they have already completed because these show up a second time with the answers displayed. For archived courses, the exercises show up with the answers displayed whether or not the student completed ever them before the course was archived. And, of course, it is hard to learn from any exercises when the answers are already displayed. This book would have been a 5-star purchase if the exercises (and solutions, separately) had been included. Sadly, they are not.
