My Review of Losing a Lost Tribe
Reading this book, reminded me of another famous scientist called Kepler. Kepler tried for twenty years to explain the orbits of the planets using the perfect pristine solid objects as dedicated by the religion of the day and could not make them work. He stated "If I could only have accepted that eight minute degree of error." But of course, being a mathematician and scientist, he placed his scientific intuition over his religious convictions and he could not accept this error. Then of course, he went on to produce the fundamental laws of orbiting bodies. Kepler was excommunicated from the church. Men like this, advances knowledge. The amazing aspect of this book is not the disclaiming the Mormonism as much as it has verified the logical theory of migration of the human species out of Africa. This is the amazing part of this book, it follows the migration of mankind beautifully. Disclaiming the Mormon doctrine was a given. Scripture does not dedicate Race. The environment, the availability of characteristics within the gene pool, and selection by a natural process determines Race. This sounds like something I heard before. In fact, since I'm on this subject matter, Evolution is not a theory, but a "Fact." The fossil record has verified that life has changed over time which is the definition of Evolution. How Evolution works by Natural Selection is the theory. So please, correct this misnomer, and make Evolution as a "Fact" and Natural Selection as the "Theory."The DNA trail of Polynesians and the American Indians agrees beautifully with the most logical migration of humans from the Asian stock. From the Southeast Asia east to the islands of the Pacific and from the Northern Asia to the Americans through the Bering Strait. The discussion about Religion fostering Science, again, this claim is not true by documented recorded history. If I remember my history, it was the Greek Philosophers at about 500 B.C.E. came up with the Philosophy of Science that called themselves "Natural Philosophers" I believe one them was called Thales of Miletus that was given the credit for the first. If anyone wants to know the Philosophy of Science is "to study natural phenomena's through there natural process excluding the Gods and that includes the Judea, Christian, Moslem and the Mormon's as well. Good old Gould, he has the right idea about Religion and Science. In regards to combine religion and science, I believe we tried this once before and we still refer to that period of time as the "Dark Ages". Also, when the Pope approached Professor Hawkings and asked him not to venture into the Big Bang, since that was God's domain, the Dark Ages is still banging at the door. Let Science take of care of the natural world and let Religion take care of the spiritual world and let's keep it that way.The Book of Mormon is the most racial religious book that I have ever encountered. Superior race of course being the white Caucasian Race, all other Races being inferior, especially the black race being at the bottom of the totem pole. No wonder this book was popular in the 1800's, it went along with removing the American Indians from there land and kept the institution of slavery intact. However, I heard that the Mormon's have changed there policy about inferior races and allowed them now to hold priesthood. Hum, I wonder what there policy is on interracial marriages? But,this doesn't make the Book of Mormon less racial because the words of racism is still there and without amendments or editing of this book, they will always be there. The Mormon Doctrine of the lost tribe has been a thorn in the side of Mormonism since the 1920's. Perpetrating an untruth will make them to deceive, manipulate, use figurative instead of literally thinking, create confusion, demand absolute obedience, requiring opponents to prove a negative and like any good lawyer defending a suspect guilty of crime, attack the evidence in an effort to maintain there religious doctrine. This is an old story of the past that Galileo, Kepler, and other famous scientists went through. The mounting evidence and advancement of knowledge will eventually overwhelm them. All I can say about this situation, is that the Mormon leaders better get some revelations that will take the Mormon religion out of the 18th century into the 21st century or there going to be left behind. Other religions has survived, Conpernicus (Sun Center Universe) Galileo, (Telescope) Kepler, (Laws of Orbiting Bodies), Charles Darwin (Evolution) and other famous scientists that contradicted religion dogma of there day. Mormonism can survive modern day science, if they choose to do so. I would hate to see this religion fade away, because it does have good family values and good healthy living.

In this book, Australian geneticist Simon Southerton summarizes much of what is now known about the origins of North America's indigenous inhabitants. He does so in a straightforward and even tone, something admirable for a man who only recently found out the church he had devoted the first forty-odd years of his life to wasn't what it claims, namely, God's "only true church".It will perhaps be difficult for still devout Mormons to believe that BYU professors, at this moment, are being paid by the LDS church to argue in effect that the claim that the Native Americans were lost Israelites was never "official church doctrine", and that this was merely the mistaken opinion of every church president from Joseph Smith to the present. (This strategy seems to have arisen out of necessity, since genetic testing has now established the non-Israelite provenance of American indigenous peoples). (See the church's website, in the "newsroom" section, to read a few of these bizarre articles). And by the way, the BOM's own described raison d'etre rests on the claim that Native Americans ARE "Israelites" (since the book says it is the means of re-gathering Israel, etc.).Southerton deals with the jaw-dropping, Orwellian attempt by Mormon apologists at literally erasing history (declaring war on reality) by patiently presenting scriptures from the LDS canon, statements from sitting church presidents, etc., clearly establishing that this was a fundamental Mormon claim; and then proceeds to present the evidence (undisputed now even by LDS apologists) showing that not only has not one iota of genetic material linking Native Americans to the Israelites been found after many thousands of blood samples, but that there is no link to ANY semitic people (obviously, with the exception of post-Columbian intermingling between Jewish immigrants and natives). Bottom line - your local Indian tribe, contrary to what Joseph Smith and LDS scriptures say, isn't a bunch of lost Jewish guys.An extra twist of the knife comes from the fact that the uninterrupted existence in N.A. of its indigenous peoples for tens of thousands of years also explodes the canonical Mormon claim that every human being on the planet, save Noah and his family, was killed by a global flood a mere 4000 plus years ago.As a side note, it may be of interest to some potential readers that Southerton, once he realized Joseph Smith had invented his stories, did not formally resign from the LDS church. He simply stopped attending. The terrible upset caused by their realization led Southerton and his wife to separate for some time, during which time they dated other people. In a recent, highly irregular move, the LDS church, apparently incapable of meeting any of Southerton's arguments but wishing nevertheless to "limit his influence" (Dallin Oaks' phrase), has excommunicated Southerton on grounds of having had "an inappropriate relationship with a woman" (during his separation while technically still on their books). I say it's irregular because, after three decades in the church and having served in many leadership callings, I have never heard once (nor has anyone else I know of) of any "inactive" person being excommunicated for an "inappropriate relationship".Southerton, presumably to highlight what appears to be the capriciousness and character-smearing intentions of LDS church "justice", has appealed his excommunication to the First Presidency of the church. In any case, if you're wondering whether the Haplogroup X argument can really save LDS claims, interested in the train crash that is Mormon apologetics, or wondering whether all of us might really be on to something when we say we've been had, you'll like this.P.S. I would like to ask LDS reviewers on here claiming that "the jury's still out" on this issue, why, if it is still out, the church itself is paying its own scholars and defenders to write articles essentially conceding that Native Americans are NOT Israelites? The fact that the church is funding them to do so says more than a million Simon Southerton books ever could. (So much for the explicit II Nephi 29 and 30...).This all will no doubt be confusing and painful to many sincere LDS. All I can say is that there are other explanations for spiritual experiences and for the production of the BOM which we never really learned about it in church, though discussion of them is beyond the scope of the Amazon review board.Good luck to all in your studies, wherever it leads you.

Lost Tribe, lost souls and lost church.
This is a game-changer for the Mormon church by an author who was a bishop in that church for many years. As a research scientist he had to choose between truth and church and he chose truth. It does mean that Joseph Smith is provably a false prophet and the Book of Mormon (BOM) is a work of fiction AND fraud. It also confirms the work done by BYU's own Professor Scott Woodward, who later lost his funding and professorship for declaring the truth. These scientists are modern day Galileos up against the power of the church and its policies. Heresy is a truth that is against church policy - such as the Earth revolving around the Sun.The BOM ends with the mass slaughter of all the whites to account for the fact that there were no Caucasian whites in the Americas prior to the arrival of Columbus (Viking settlements excluded and known). Nor were there ever, as the author shows.

When God cursed white Jews with a 'skin of blackness' ...
When God cursed white Jews with a 'skin of blackness' ( 2 Nephi; 5: 21 ), God must have changed the Hebrew DNA at the same time. Simon G Southerton's LOSING A LOST TRIBE.....' demonstrates through science research that the indigenous people of America have no Hebrew DNA.Joseph Smith's crackpot claims that the American Indians were literally descended from Hebrew folk who arrived in America around 600 BC can no longer be accepted as having any credibility. Simon G Southerton produces a convincing argument that the origin of the American Indian is Asia and Southerton provides compelling science based data to back up his argument. Simon G Southerton's book takes to task the basic claim of Smith's 'Book Of Mormon' assertion regarding the origin of the American Indian and the reader is left in no doubt that Joseph Smith wrote a fantasy account of the American Indian. Anyone who is concerned about the issue of the origin of the American Indian, as claimed in The Book Of Mormon, should read Southerton's book.
