More than just rocks, it's history.
This book is more than a guide to the rocks of Georgia. It's about their history, too. It tells how they started, how they came to be as they are, and how they came to be where they are. Reaching back over a billion years, the author shows how Earth's tectonic forces made the landscape of Georgia what it is today and how the record of those forces can still be seen in the rocks. With more than a hundred colorful photos, maps, charts, and illustrations following a billion years of Georgia's geologic history, this book will show you the state in a whole new light. You'll never be able to look at Georgia's landscape again without seeing in your mind's eye what it was like 100 million, 500 million, or even a billion years ago.

For the rockhound who didn't know about the opportunities in Georgia for rocks and minerals.
Very well written, in a manner that the average rockhound can understand. It gets technical, but understandable!!

Great little book!
This book is wonderful because it focuses on how rocks in Georgia were formed as a result of continental drift. The best feature of the book (for me) is that it provides a set of simple graphics that show the specific sequencing of continental drift events that have affected Georgia, starting with the breakup of Rodinia. It also includes excellent sections and photographs that illustrate and explain the composition and appearance of rocks and minerals found in Georgia. Other than "Roadside Geology of Georgia" by Pamela Gore (also an excellent book), I have not found similar books for Georgia that have a primary emphasis on the relationship of the rocks and minerals to continental drift.

Rocks of Georgia
Detailed descriptions of the geological past, pictures of rocks, what could go wrong? I did not know to look for volcanic signs in Georgia, probably tripped over old lava and what not never realizing what it was. Next time I'll have this book with me.

The Rocks of Georgia Unveiled
This book is awesome. Reading it was like sitting in a classroom looking and listening, as the author talked directly to me.His explanations were clear, concise, and the graphics were outstanding as illustrations of his words. All textbooks should be written like this. As we were riding with friends I noticed some unusual rock formations which whetted my curiosity, leading me to search for their origin. The internet led me to this book. My lucky day.

From a novice rock collector's perspective
The book is very well planned and written. It is very useful in the planning of observation and collecting trips for novice and experienced rock collectors. In addition it is well written and explanatory concerning the processes of rock formations for those who do not have a geological background.

Good general book
As an amateur geologist, this is a nice book to explain different areas of the state of GA. I collect the historical Bulletins of state and this is a good companion to the old books.
