Transformers: Maximum Dinobots

Good
Great art work, story was good. But what made it comfusing is if you dont follow story lines from other books, you missing few key points. Thats why I giving this book a 4 star. It took me a min to remmber few books I read years ago to put in some of the missing peaces that makes this book great! Still Having fig on few things but just have to back track on story board for them. But as for hour Dinobots! Over all ok. Good, Just missing that something that I can not explain it. Would give this book a 3. But after peaceing few things a bit. Good thing I wrote this later, I giving it a four.Story gives hits about Dinobots past, how they became together, would enjoy to read more about that! But you know and I know, the dinobots were creative on earth when Transformes crash land. Cartoons in 80's. So these comic books are just creative stories. Enjoyable to read. Nothing wrong with taking something and making it better!

Bittersweet ending to the -Ation series
I really have to hand it to Simon Furman. IDW essentially canned the original and very complex Transformers continuity he'd created (often called the "-Ation" series by fans, since the title of each installment ended in the "-ation" suffix) in favor of the bland "All Hail Megatron" series, set about a year after the Revelation miniseries, the too-sudden ending to 2+ years of new Transformers stories. I don't know the exact circumstances by which Maximum Dinobots came about, but Furman could've told IDW to "shove it" when he was asked to write another miniseries to fill in the blanks left by the poor storytelling in All Hail Megatron. But, instead, he wrote what is one of his greatest Transformers tales. It doesn't hurt that the story revolves around his clear favorite character, Grimlock, on a quest to save the other Dinobots from Scorponok and the Machination, but it's clear he put a lot of effort into Maximum Dinobots. After reading All Hail Megatron, Maximum Dinobots is where the series ends for me. Hopefully, someday, IDW and Hasbro may realize the mistake they've made and bring back Furman or another author of his caliber.

Good, but not Great
I bought this product originally because A) I enjoy Simon Furman's writing (especially his 'Beast Wars' comics); B) I read the 'Transformers Spotlight: Grimlock', & wanted to see what happened next; & C) I'm just a fan of the Dinobots in general! All around, I found the story entertaining enough. We get to see a lot of smashing & all around mayhem caused by the renegade Autobots that we have come to expect. Also, the group dynamics of the elite squad are explored more in detail, which makes the story more interesting. However, there are many side plots & tie-ins to the other IDW Transformers comics that seemed rather boring, confusing (if you're not reading all the other IDW 'Transformers' series), & seemingly unnecessary. What I was really hoping for was a standalone Dinobots series, & while we do finally get one with 'Maximum Dinobots', the added plotline's & somewhat bland writing (this is not Simon Furman at his best) make this something of a disappointment.Overall, I would only recommend this if you're a Dinobots fan, & even then don't expect too much.
