She becomes his salvation....his absolute everything..
"You are traveling to another realm, a realm not only of sight and sound but of mind. A fantastic journey into a wondrous land of imagination. Next stop... Marann! What a talent this Author possesses! What an incredible ability to convey a paranormal plot of adventure and mystery so thoroughly and completely- - and right from the beginning. I mean, BAM!...you're off and running!! <and totally reeled in>. Ms. Gage ever so slowly weaves a mysterious spell full of adventurous intrigue and powerful attraction as she takes the reader through the paces of every detailed, delicious, intimate moment. Wonderful!I almost didn't purchase/read this story. I mean...it's about Anya (from book#1 Wishing for a Highlander (Highland Wishes Book 1) ...and WHO liked HER?!? Who'd wanna read more about her and her corruption? But the positive reviews piqued my curiosity about Riggs...the main male character of this plot - - - so here we go....Riggs is a Marannian "Wolfkind" trapper...part wolf, part fey and all man.... [can I pause right here and say...."yowza"??!?]. Sweet baby geebus he's hawt...... one hawt yummy piece of cheeeeeeze. He's an enormous mountain of a Marannian wolf with his hairy body and animal eyes of amber. He's strong and powerful - - and he rescues Anya and becomes utterly and completely smitten by her. She captivates him and.. holy hard-on batman... he's lost to all logical reason. His only thought is to hold her, protect her and never let her go. His greatest enemies are Larnians, whose king is Bantus of Larna...(one disgusting worm..) Larnia is a dying country of men...with no hope of living through their young for there are no females. (..look out Anya!!!)If you've read the first book Wishing for a Highlander (Highland Wishes Book 1) that introduces Anya to us, you'll know she's a vindictive, calculating and evil little ho. She's feisty and strong...sassy, confident and full of pluck! She's beautiful, tough and can be sweet too. And she's also crippled. But now she's reformed....she's learned the lesson of her wicked ways and has confessed her sins and repented and is now walking the straight and narrow. But doggone it, right when she decides to take her lashes for all her sins...poof!...she's whisked off to a different realm. The girl can't catch a break....ya almost gotta feel sorry for her. But it's lip smacking Riggs to her rescue, and the adventures begin. This is a romantic and sometimes humorous story of Anya transported to another realm - - she's an alien in an alien world it seems. She's rescued, pampered, adored and coveted by Riggs. She's the miracle their King Mangus dreamt of...the miracle that will become Queen and save their dying people. A fascinating tale of embracing new changes...swallowing your pride and forgiving betrayals. And giving honor when due.If there's any downside to this plot, it would be the abrupt ending. Even with an epilogue, it would've been nice to have closure to Seona's issues and Riggs' and Anya's "future". Guess it makes for a nice beginning to the next book, huh? All in all, this was a fabulous and wondrous story of a man filled with pain and loneliness and the woman who heals him and becomes his saving grace. Brava Ms. Gage!

Become a child again
Some who read the first book in the series declared they would not read this one because of strong dislike/distaste for Anya, the villain in book one and heroine of book two. The first error in that stance is the failure to read or understand the histories of the evil characters that led to their misguided actions. By the end of book one it was clear that Anya was beginning to change. The second error is to forget the childhood fascination with stories that teeter on the boundary between reality and fantasy. You will need a lot of that memory in book two. Wolfkind living in an alternative reality? Yes please! Kind, compassionate, and loyal men of that species? Yes please! Love between human women and Wolfkind men? Yes please! Evil characters able to time travel at will to reach their goals? Maybe not so much but what's a good story without a little tension? If you're ready to believe in the fanciful as you did during childhood, this is the story for you. Beyond that, watch Anya find redemption and become a true heroine, not just the main female character. I loved this return to the delights of childhood in an adult format.

Unexpected
I read the first book in this series a while back, and if -- back then -- you told me book 2 would be about Anya, I wouldn't have bothered with it. Honestly, I'd forgotten about her character and when I saw that this book was out, I remembered how well Gage told the story and book 1, so I went ahead and downloaded book 2 on the merits of book 1.As soon as the story started filtering through my memories, and I remembered who Anya was, I was a little concerned that I wouldn't be able to forgive her for her role in book 1 (and therefore not connect with her character). I was pleasantly surprised at how well Gage turned her character around -- in a very believable way -- and made me cheer her story on as if she'd never done the bad things she did in book 1. Her redemption was believable, and her HEA well deserved. The wolf-kind realm was a little jarring at first, but it didn't take long to settle into this new world. This isn't a typical historical paranormal where the formula is time-travel + Scottish historical. These magical creatures and this magical realm are pretty original as far as this sub-genre go. A lot of the Scottish/historical/paranormal romances deal with time-travel and faeries, and so this was refreshing. As far at the book itself, it was well-written, no typos that I noticed, the plot pulled you in, and it was paced very well. It didn't drag anywhere, and if that thought even entered my mind, BAM! something changed and the characters were facing something new. The love story between them was so well orchestrated and their characterization thoughtful and realistic.Well done!

I was so not prepared for this!
After reading the first book in the series, WISHING FOR A HIGHLANDER, this second book really took by surprise! Whereas the first was somewhat predictable time travel, and rather sweet, this was much more a Beauty and the Beast - only, the beast never changes back to be a handsome prince. The atmosphere is very dark, actions of some of the characters more than a little brutal. I did read through to the end: the story line was strong enough, the characters sympathetic enough, that I felt I owed it to them. But this was not one of my favorite books. More than likely I'll never read it again. And yes, I'm a wee bit sorry I spent the money on it. It's well written, good job of sequencing the action, character development, good editing and proofreading. But not a book that I enjoyed.

Not what I expected! But very good!
I read the first in the series and loved it. Easy to read and didn't want it to end. This second book was not at all what I expected but was also thoroughly enjoyable.

The Wolf and the Highlander
I thoroughly enjoyed book 1 in this series but it's taken me ages to bring myself to read this one simply because I didn't like Anya, she was a horrible person. Surprise, surprise she has learnt her lesson and Riggs brought out the best in her.A thoroughly enjoyable read that kept me turning pages wondering the whole time who can be trusted.I like the way Jessi Gage tells a story, most of which I've read.

A heavy dollop of fantasy, laced with a dash of magic....
I would have liked this second novel in the series, to tie-in a little more with the first. Apart from that, Riggs is a sweetheart and Anya seems to have mended her ways seeking punishment for her previous wrongs. A delightful HEA story, thanks again, Jessi!
